So, IS Roberts another Souter?
I'll admit, after hearing about Roberts' gay rights pro bono work, I'm slightly optimistic about him. Obviously he's not a raging Liberal, but I sense that he may not be an Antonin Scalia/Clarence Thomas either. So, has W made a spectacular blunder, or is the right somehow pulling wool over our eyes? (As a footnote, I was puttering around freerepublic, and found that the freepers as a whole seem curiously nonplussed by this...) Thoughts anyone?

2. Souter was supposed to be a huge conservative too...
But then, so were Scalia and Thomas. I think it's true that you never know how someone will really act on the bench until they are there, sitting on a lifetime appointment, not having to answer to anyone.
The only thing to do is wait and see.

3. Ask yourself this
What questions do you think Bush asked him?

The opposition criticizes every Democratic Senator's questions with shrill cries of "inappropriate!". However, the questions GWB (or any President) asks are forever a private matter.

I'm not suggesting they shouldn't remain a private matter. However, we can only speculate on it. The same is true with the President's political adviser(s) and strategist(s) who also likely interviewed the candidates.

So, what list of questions do you suspect Karl Rove had for Roberts?

4. Don't forget about the Log Cabin Republicans, the Republican
Party's version of Jews for Hitler.

Roberts is a Federalist fascist.

5. Different Kinds of Conservatives
Sometimes we forget all of the different types of conservatives. From the analysis I read, Roberts really believes that the Federal courts should not get involved in many situations. He is very willing to defer to the states. That can be good or bad, depending upon the issue.

6. No one can tell if Bush is lying to his base or the moderates.
I guess we'll find out soon enough.
