about the Voter Rights legislation in 1965? It is worth listening to and taking lessons from regarding how to frame rights, including the rights to choose leaders, to assemble, to speak freely, and to live in peace. The best lessons to learn about fighting for rights were learned in the 1960s and were promptly forgotten.

I was too young the first time around. Very impressive. I grew up in a republican voting home and at that age you aren't very politically oriented anyway, so I didn't have much of an opinion of him. I can see that I was wrong.

As I listened this morning though, I kept wondering how the Democratic Party forgot to talk about rights and the needs of the common man for dignity and equality. These are the foundations of democracy. This is the party I want back.

4. I think its the kind of message that can and will be heard by the

people if someone will just step forward and say it. That speech really resonated. Especially when you consider all the anti-people legislature that the republican party has been pushing.

to listen to it and be locked in a room until they can come up with a platform and strategies that support those ideals.

I was the only weirdo up watching CSpan in the early early Saturday morning!

I told my wife that I don't remember Johnson as a great speaker, but he's 10 times better than our current thorough embarassment, and this must he one of his best. It was actually moving to hear a president talking, with some surprising amount of passion, about granting and guaranteeing rights to citizens, rather than using the fear of a violent age to justify taking them away.

This speech was all about the right to vote, recognising that the ability of a people to choose their own leader is a basic civil, human right. It's too bad that our current leaders believe that voting abuses are still acceptable legitimate election tactics.
