Most disturbing song ever: "I Made it to Arlington"
This piece of fascist claptrap was actually playing during the slideshow before the movie we saw last night (Must Love Dogs...Grade: C+). Not being into country, I'd never heard it before, but as it played in the theater, both my wife and I got increasingly angry. This is fascism, folks. Pretty simple. Fascism isn't the Gestapo knocking down your door. It's the mobilization of affects in support of the War State. Here's the garbage itself:

I never thought that this is where I'd settle down.
I thought I'd die an old man back in my hometown.
They gave me this plot of land,
Me and some other men, for a job well done.

There's a big White House sits on a hill just up the road.
The man inside, he cried the day they brought me home.
They folded up a flag and told my Mom and Dad:
"We're proud of your son."

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done.
I can rest in peace;
I'm one of the chosen ones:
I made it to Arlington.

I remember Daddy brought me here when I was eight.
We searched all day to find out where my grand-dad lay.
And when we finally found that cross,
He said: "Son, this is what it cost to keep us free."

Now here I am, a thousand stones away from him.
He recognized me on the first day I came in.
And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels,
And saluted me.

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done.
I can rest in peace;
I'm one of the chosen ones:
I made it to Arlington.

And everytime I hear twenty-one guns,
I know they brought another hero home to us.

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done.
We can rest in peace;
'Cause we are the chosen ones:
We made it to Arlington.

Yeah, dust to dust,
Don't cry for us:
We made it to Arlington.

1. The only good thing about that song is
that Trace Atkins has the worst voice, and no one knows what he's saying. I must've heard that song 10 times before I realized what the song was about.x(

this is the WORST song Ever! Whenever I hear it, I scream at the radio

.

Darryl Worley - Have You Forgotten

Lyrics:

I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground?
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down
They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
Before you start preaching
Let me ask you this my friend

CHORUS 1
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

They took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it every day
Some say this country's just out looking for a fight
After 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right

CHORUS 1
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet they remember
Just what they're fighting for

CHORUS 2
Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Some went down like heroes in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
All the loved ones that we lost
And those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry about Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten?

***************************************************************

NO, I have not forgotten about Bin Laden, but our pResident has!

Shrub never even acknowledges that there even ARE dead soldiers, let alone CRY for one.

5. Three problems with that.
1.)George Bush doesn't give a rats ass, he would never cry over the death of a commoner.

2.) Whitehouse doesn't sit on the top of a hill. Per haps they meant Arlington House, which is in the cemetery. Former home of Robert E. Lee.

3.) They don't use crosses at Arlington. They use stones as markers.

pure nationalistic bullshit. Country music is the worst bunch of crap shit in the world. It is corporate music.

13. robert e lee was a traitor
he should have been executed. lincoln wanted to algore john kerry and bill clinton the men who ignored the union warning that if the south was free to break away, then the USA must disintegrate whenever any argument anywhere was taken up by extremists, and what happened to lincoln?
General Lee was a goddam traitor, and it's because he got away with it that today treason is king (Ben Butler wanted to hang lee, davis and the rest of the southern leadership, but lincoln was too damn nice. it's about time this catastrophic error in judgement by lincoln was condemned; instead the freepers condemn lincoln for suspending habeous corpus!)

23. You're correct. Even if they meant Arlington House,
who's "the man there"?

Dick Cheney made the same mistake about the crosses vs. stones. Wonder if his staff "helped" write the lyrics?

Obviously these panderers have never actually been to Arlington Cemetery. And, if they ever did, most people experience a very different emotion when there, than this song expresses.

6. I saw it on CMT last night
All I know is that during Desert Storm it was my intention to avoid getting to Arlington, so I don't think that being chosen to be buried
there is that great of an honor.

There can be no honor when you are killed fighting a war based on lies and deception, there is no honor in the murder of civilians or the destruction of people's homes.

27. We were pissed off about THAT
This is clearly a political song. Maybe I'm a a bit of a schmuck, but I don't want to be subjected to overt propaganda when I go to see a fucking romantic comedy. Yes, yes. All films are political at some level, and all commercials that precede the film have political content at the very broad level. But a specific partisan song that you'd have to leave the theater (and lose your seat) to avoid? That's fucked. Imagine if they had followed this with Country Joe and the Fish doing the "Ferel Like I'm Fixin' to Die Rag." Would the right wingers in the theater go nuts, issue boycott threats, and pretend victim status? You're damn right they would. And I don't think they should have to listen to that when they go out to see a romantic comedy either! As I said, wife and I were major pissed off about it.

31. Agree completely.
People shouldn't be subjected to propaganda when they are sitting in a public movie theater. Remember what happened in Vegas with Linda Rondstadt? The pukes went ballistic because she dedicated Desperado to Michael Moore, and she got the boot! But we're just supposed to STFU and take it when this kind of shit is heaped upon us. Enough already!

28. Army dreamers
B.f.p.o.*
Army dreamers.
Mammy’s hero.
B.f.p.o.
Mammy’s hero.

Our little army boy
Is coming home from b.f.p.o.
I’ve a bunch of purple flowers
To decorate a mammy’s hero.

Mourning in the aerodrome,
The weather warmer, he is colder.
Four men in uniform
To carry home my little soldier.

What could he do?
Should have been a rock star.
But he didn’t have the money for a guitar.
What could he do?
Should have been a politician.
But he never had a proper education.
What could he do?
Should have been a father.
But he never even made it to his twenties.
What a waste --
Army dreamers.
Ooh, what a waste of
Army dreamers.

Tears o’er a tin box.
Oh, jesus christ, he wasn’t to know,
Like a chicken with a fox,
He couldn’t win the war with ego.

Give the kid the pick of pips,
And give him all your stripes and ribbons.
Now he’s sitting in his hole,
He might as well have buttons and bows.

Ooh, what a waste of all that
Army dreamers,
Army dreamers,
Army dreamers, oh...

(b.f.p.o.)
Did-n-did-n-did-n-dum...
Army dreamers.
Did-n-did-n-did-n-dum...
(mammy’s hero.)
(b.f.p.o.)
Army dreamers.
(mammy’s hero.)
(b.f.p.o.)
No harm heroes.
(mammy’s hero.)
(b.f.p.o.)
Army dreamers.
(mammy’s hero.)
(b.f.p.o.)
No harm heroes.

Glorifying going to war and dying...so many funerals and many more to come...they need a new song to play at the ceremony...nothing about the young fighting and dying for the wars brought on by angry old men...

Pure genius. This shit will sell lots of money! Maybe the fact that no one really sees the returning dead makes it all the more intriguing!

Live the Fantasy! Die for PNAC! Guess who has the last laugh, sucker!

Guess this ridiculous piece of crap must be in a bunch of theaters right now. I think it is so bad that it probably backfires with sane people. One can imagine fitting tributes to those in Arlington. This song isn't one.

I wouldn't describe it as "fascist." It's just bad, stupid, and political.

Someone should come up with a Fascist greatest hits playlist.
"I Made it to Arlington" should come right before Horst Wessel.

Flag high, ranks closed,
The S.A. marches with silent solid steps.
Comrades shot by the red front and reaction
march in spirit with us in our ranks.

The street free for the brown battalions,
The street free for the Storm Troopers.
Millions, full of hope, look up at the swastika;
The day breaks for freedom and for bread.

For the last time the call will now be blown;
For the struggle now we all stand ready.
Soon will fly Hitler-flags over every street;
Slavery will last only a short time longer.

Flag high, ranks closed,
The S.A. marches with silent solid steps.
Comrades shot by the red front and reaction
march in spirit with us in our ranks.
