DFA goals and recent news. Setting it straight.
I thought I would take this opportunity to explain what DFA is about.

This page tells you more about the group.

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/about.php

What is Democracy for America?
"Inspired by the presidential campaign of Howard Dean, Democracy for America (DFA) is a political action committee dedicated to supporting fiscally responsible, socially progressive candidates at all levels of government—from school board to the presidency. DFA fights against the influence of the far right-wing and their radical, divisive policies and the selfish special interests that for too long have dominated our politics.

DFA has a long-term goal that looks past November 2004. This organization will rebuild the Democratic Party from the bottom up—it will take time, but we must start building a base now for the future."

They are getting ready for more internships as others head back to school. Most importantly, we are adding an assistant Polical Field Director in addition to Chris Warshaw. A full time position.

One of the duties will be to work with the new youth arm of DFA called Generation DFA. It is being headed by the young guy who wrote "The Tea is in the Harbor"...Scott something, will have to look it up.

Their website is still being formed, but they are in all 50 states and organizing.

And coming soon DFA Link....because we will no longer be using Meet-Up. Not out yet, but coming.

HQ Gathers to Say Goodbye
As more interns and staffers move on from DFA this month, the Democracy for America office is becoming emptier by the day. This week, interns Amanda Dlugiewicz (Field/Political), Elyse Deutscher (Front Office) and Elliott McCurry (Information Technology) returned to their homes and schools before the start of the Fall semester.

You may have spoken to one of these three interns without even realizing it. As a Meetup Host, Amanda may have called with a reminder. If you called DFA HQ on a Wednesday morning, you most likely spoke to Elyse. And if you ever wrote into Blog for America, Elliott intercepted your email and either responded or routed it to the right person. He also wrote come of the code for the upcoming software changes—so if you find a bug, we'll be sure to forward it along to him at college.

In addition to interns departing, we are also saddened to be losing Zach Manganello—who works on compliance and Dean for America issues—to law school this year. It's a positive move for Zach and we're all glad to see him pursuing his goal.

The entire HQ office gathered to say goodbye and thank you to these departing friends. Longtime volunteer Pat Hanson made a unique traditional almond icing cake, studded with fresh blueberries. As we assembled to take the photo below, one clever intern (who was recently hired as a staff member!) managed to get into the photo twice.

I hated the post that said we were vs the DLC. We are our own group, we are not anti we are pro.
