Pew Survey Illuminates World Opinion of Liberals in U.S.

There is a greatly underused resource available to help influence people here at home through the use of the international media.
We are, after all, a nation of immigrants, and many new citizens, as well as many second-
and third-generation Americans still have a genuine interest in the goings-on and politics of their ancestral lands,
and listen to native-language TV and read native newspapers.
Not to mention the increasing national awareness of the international media, especially European newspapers,
in presenting a very different view of events than what we get here.

Using the international media to spread the truth
about the recklessness of the present administration,
here and around the globe, would be a good way
to share our opinions and ideas,
and start become relevant again.

I came across this table while reading through the recently released 2005 Pew Global Attitudes Survey:

In the eyes of the world liberals in this country are seen as almost completely irrelevant with regards to U.S. foreign policy.
(I don't see us being too relevant to domestic policy, either.)

I know it is considered unpatriotic to criticize the government from outside the country, especially during time of war,
but give me a break; they started this increasingly-apparent, premeditated invasion/war.
The Bush administration has lost all legitimate right to tell us that we should not criticize them
wherever and wherever we can. (And spare me the bullshit about aiding the enemy and not supporting the troops.)

With the implementation of the draconian measures to strip us of our constitutionally bestowed rights
through the Orwellian-named, and recently reauthorized, Patriot Act,
abetted by the collusion of the corporately-owned media in censoring the news
and topped off with the brown-shirt tactics being used to stifle dissent and intimidate the citizenry into cowed silence,
what avenues are left to us to fight this progressively fascist tyranny,
that is, as we speak, moving to subvert the republic and end our democracy.

And make no mistake, time and again we have seen proof of the craven lengths to which those now in power will go
in securing their continued totalitarian control of everything they can get their hands on.
To them that is the real war, and they intend to win.

I should think the international media would be much more likely to feature opponents of Bush's policies
and atrocities than the news outlets in this country.
The Pew survey's title, "U.S. Image Up Slightly, But Still Negative"
while disheartening, is a wake up call that the rest of the world needs to hear from we who oppose
this monstrous administration, and how we'll be changing things
to make the world a safer, healthier and more prosperous place.

If liberals and progressives are to make a comeback in '06,
its imperative that we start getting the message out loud and clear and as often as possible
by the increased use of the global soapbox of the international media.
