But I didn't say "IF Bush acted like a man and met with Cindy Sheehan..." to be sexist.

If you can think of a way to address:

1). The fact that he is not a compassionate person
2). The fact that he is not a caring person
3). The fact that he is not a humane person

...AND add the INTENT of my post, which is:

4). His lack of courage
5). His lack of accountability
6). The fact that he has suffered NO PERSONAL LOSS as the result of his war

...And phrase it in a way other than

"IF Bush acted like a man and met with Cindy Sheehan..."

...that will fit on a DU subject line, I'd be willing to consider it. But not because you have correctly fathomed my intent, or because I wish to conform to your moral code. I'd consider it if you came up with something that accomplished all of the above and fit on one line.

You see, uppityperson...with all due respect...there are some of us who were raised with the "what it means to be a man" ethic.

I don't think my parents were being sexist when they instilled that in me. If you think they were...given the fact that you didn't know them and you don't know me...here's your chance to enlighten me.

I am sorry if you took this as an insult to how you were raised or to your parents as this is not how it was meant.

I assumed you did not say it to be sexist, but it is a sexist phrase.The meaning behind words, the feeling that accompanies them can be subtle.

I know what you mean by "acted like a man" but it rankles. I was raised in those times too. But now is different and how do men act? Can they cry? Should they have a stiff upper lip and short hair? Should they do the right thing, be caring humane people?

I am not a man. Does that mean when I do the right thing, or am caring or humane I am acting like a (what)? If my husband acts caring, humane, in the right way, it is not because he is a man but because he is a caring humane person.

Mr.bush acts in no right way, but this is because he is not a caring humane person, but an arrogant righteous one. Sometimes I think his intellect is deficient, other times his soul. He does the right thing seldom because he is not humane.
