Will Jennings Overshadow Sheehan???
How lucky can "the corrupt ones" get??? I just wonder if THE MEDIA are going to PAN Sheehan because of Peter Jennings death??

I've been emailing and emailing, getting lots of bounce-backs, but I think all sent to the 9/11 Commission went through!!

So if this has already been posted.... SORRY!

1. They definitely are trying to use his death to overshadow the truth.
He would be mighty PO'd.

3. Wow, merh, that statement (is that
called a sig line?) is powerful, and I'm sure, sadly, subject to change.

4. sorry, but jennings is an news icon
he deserves every bit of the attention he's getting... and much more in my opinion.

by far, the greatest anchorman ever on television, one who got this nation through many trying times.

i think to compare his death and the coverage of this mother, is a little inane.

7. Peter Jennings would not want to canonized at the risk of
overshadowing the truth. To think otherwise is to not appreciate what he considered important. He hated "celebrity" coverage.

15. And They Are Talking About Roberts!!!
I liked Jennings too, but the Iraq War is SERIOUS, SERIOUS stuff!

I was just wondering HOW long the homage will be, or if they will just drag it out because "the corrupt ones" SAY SO!!

10. Second greatest; I'm old enough (eek) to remember Uncle Walter.
But Peter Jennings was certainly emulation=worthy. Too bad being excellent pays so lousy these days.

sigh.

11. I agree. Let's not see everything in purely political, opportunistic terms
He may be overshadowing her right now but that's life -- and death. I am more than willing to take at least 24 hours to mourn Jennings whom I deeply respected.

17. I enjoyed his in depth coverage of Colin Powell's lies to the UN...
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 07:02 PM by Dr Fate
Thanks to him, Bush was unable to fool the majority of the country into believing those lies.

...and his investigative work concerning election fraud- top notch.

And his tireless coverage of all the lies Bush was telling during the 2004 election. If it were not for him, everyone would have believed all that Swiftboat stuff.

Yes- he is the greatest news icon of all eternity.

18. good job, you got one of your charges wrong
If it were not for him, everyone would have believed all that Swiftboat stuff.

He didn't give them any airtime when he was anchoring. He never allowed their charges to stand, he would only mention how people were justifiably demanding that their ads be removed since they were clearly tied to the Bush White House.

Those who are taking a dump on a great man need to realize that the job of a news anchor isn't to opine, read the news with a political bent, or editorialize, it's to read the news.

19. So Colin Powell's lies & election fraud was not news?
Or would pointing that out also be editorializing?

I'm glad he did at least mention that the ads were tied to Bush-but so what- no one cared who they were tied to, but whehter the charges were true or not. Did he ever report the fact that the Bush White house was lying in those ads?

For the stories that shaped the past few years, I see little difference in his reporting and any one elses.

The hero worship is unwarranted- I'm sure he was a nice guy, but his reporting barely scratched the surface.

14. Jennings was a very sexy guy
I mean, this guy was cool and so stylish. I hate to say it, but he was great. It's like a style icon dying, this guy, really. He looked good doing ANYTHING.

So style trumps substance. Cindy Sheehan is the real thing. She gets herself out there. Oh, man, she is one of the people that Jennings would cover as people who really changed things. Not looking glamorous or fashionable, just deciding to do their thing.

How great!

22. Some here probably believe it
Rule Number One of DU: You do not talk about DU
Rule Number Two of DU: You do not talk about DU

Rule Number Three of DU: If you're pet story for the week is not getting "Japs Bomb Pearl Harbor" style banner headlines, Karl Rove has created another story out of thin air to distract the public.

Rule Number Four of DU: Karl Rove is capable of having any person in American murdered at a moment's notice with no evidence of foul play. In this case, he can give a famous newsman cancer.

24. The media does know any Cindy coverage and this thing continues
to explode further and could gain uncontrolable momentum which frankly isn't doing too badly, lawyers-Conyers-subway-sandwiches-porta-potties?!

Bush will make next move by having her arrested, then it'll start up again because her lawyers will make some news!
