WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The Committee for Justice, which defends and promotes constitutionalist judicial nominees, today responded to NARAL Pro-Choice America's new TV ad on Supreme Court nominee John Roberts.
"We told you so," CFJ Chairman C. Boyden Gray said. "After three weeks of restraint, the radical left's dam has finally broken and the hysterics have begun."
"A respectful debate is not what NARAL's clients demand, does not get Nancy Keenan on TV, and does not bring in revenue from women frightened by NARAL's scare tactics," Gray continued.
"To associate a man of John Roberts' character and integrity with criminals is simply deceitful," Gray added. "It says more about NARAL than it does about John Roberts," Gray added. "There is a whiff of desperation about this ad."
"NARAL's press release compounds the injury by dishonestly stating, 'we are not suggesting Mr. Roberts condones or supports clinic violence,' when that of course is exactly what their ad does," Gray also said.
"CFJ calls on moderate Democratic senators such as Joe Lieberman (Conn.), Ben Nelson (Neb.), Blanche Lincoln (Ark.), Mark Pryor (Ark.), Mary Landrieu (La.), Debbie Stabenow (Mich.), Herb Kohl (Wis.), Kent Conrad (N.Dak.), Evan Bayh (Ind.), Tom Carper (Del.), Robert Byrd (W.Va.), and Jeff Bingaman (N.Mex.) to renounce NARAL and to communicate to liberal groups that smear tactics are not helpful or wanted," Gray continued.
"We also invite the mainstream media, through its news and editorial coverage, to treat NARAL's ads as shocking and distasteful rather than go along on the ride to the circus," Gray concluded. "Only if NARAL's tactics are thoroughly discredited by journalists and Democrats will we restore the confirmation process to a less politicized state."
