Dean at VT fundraiser: They put us on defense, we are going on offense.

I just saw a post about wondering where the DNC was in relation to Cindy Sheehan. I don't know about the others, but Dean last week was in Birmingham, Atlanta, then to Edinburgh, TX (think I spelled that right), then to a 3 day Hispanic Summit in San Antonio. Then fundraiser tonight.

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Howard Dean gives Republicans credit for one thing: They have put the Democrats on the defensive and forced them to fight on their turf. That, he said, is about to change.

"What the propagandists on the right have done is make people afraid to say they are Democrats," Dean told a gathering of Vermont Democrats. "We have to be out there. We have to be vocal. We have to be pushing our version of the facts because their version of the facts is very unfactual."

After visiting 30 states in the first six months as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Dean said Monday he has found "There are Democrats everywhere."

"Among those attending were U.S. Sens. Patrick Leahy and Jim Jeffords, as well as U.S. Rep. Bernie Sanders, who is seeking Jeffords' seat in the Senate. Both Jeffords and Sanders are independents but both caucus in Washington with the Democrats.

State Sen. Peter Welch, a candidate for Sanders' House seat, spoke at the reception, as did Scudder Parker, who is challenging the re-election next year of Gov. Jim Douglas."

5. A good article about this from the Rutland Herald.

Sounds like a very successful fundraiser, and I can just picture Howard Dean and Bernie Sanders hugging each other. As Dean would say "Bernie and I have had our differences." Sounds like a great evening.

Dean, state Democrats rally troops

BURLINGTON — Vermont Democrats remember former Gov. Howard Dean as someone who largely stayed away from party politics.

But Monday, he made it clear it's now his job. In fact, as head of the Democratic National Committee, he said, it's his goal to overhaul his party in every state and on every level.

"The fund-raising event was unusual because it was held during the doldrums of August in a non-election year. National party officials said they expected to raise about $100,000 through the reception and dinner, which cost $50 to $1,000 a person."

Dean, who was joined by Sen. Patrick Leahy, a Democrat, Sen. James Jeffords and U.S. Rep. Bernard Sanders, both independents, joked at the event about the Democratic Party's "big tent."

"Dean, who supports Sanders' bid to replace Jeffords in the Senate, hugged the independent when Sanders arrived."

6. I just read an article about

Bernie Sanders in The Nation magazine and he sounds like someone who has earned his reputation as the next Senator from Vermont; the old fashioned way..by hard work and keeping his promises.

I'm betting Dean appreciates him more than ever now..even though as I remember Bernie endorsed Dennis Kucinich for Prez :)
