Notice that the DSMs are rarely discussed in the news and that
Plame's work for the CIA that involved tracking the flow of WMDs to prevent them from falling into the hands of terrorists or rogue nations is rarely mentioned.

There is a big overarching story - a theme if this were literature - that is right there, in front of the public's eyes. However, while the MSM does cover the individual stories (if ever so briefly) they don't emphasize how the stories reconfirm the theme - and provide more and more evidence that the "theme" was indeed reality.

Theme - The Bushadministration was more interested in exploiting political gain than about national security. That the bushadministration holds the public in contempt, in the sense that they operate from a premise that if marketed the right way - they can sell us anything and we will buy it and they will profit (e.g., creating the one storyline folks would buy to go to war which was not about "democratization" it was about impending/inevitable threat and a doctrine of "preemptive strike"). All the while they (bushadmin) act with total disregard to the national security of the United States and her citizens.

Note - while at war in Afghanistan (going after al qeada and osama) - draining $, intelligence resources and troops to begin staging for a war in Iraq... That is: jeopardize the success in Afghanistan because, in their minds - or so their actions suggest, that was a lower priority than going after Saddam.

Note - while still selling the war in Iraq (like the "Mission Accomplished" show, and bush's proclamation that wmds "had been found.") - admin officials (more than one) blew up a serious intelligence network that operated to protect the US against an attack with wmds.

Note - the DSMs give detail to what has been in evidence by the admins own actions - for example, two (not one) federal departments found the aluminum tubes were not made to the specifications for nuke centrifuges - but the admin used and repeated that the tubes were evidence of wmds. Note - that two (at least) groups with in the federal govt flagged Chalabi and company as unreliable sources of intelligence - but the bush admin used chalabico exclusively to get their "information" that they used to sell the wmds storyline to the public.

What gives with our anemic media? They do report the discrete stories (all of the above has been reported in the MSM) - but they don't tie the stories together. They don't give the whole picture to the short-attention-span public. And they are quick to let the stories drop - and not mention them again - even when they are germaine to the next new discrete story.

Argh.

1. The idea of a free press
watching out for us and doggedly uncovering corruption is a staged play, the main players like Woodward are now showing their true colors.

I think the far right cooked Watergate to get Nixon out, to make way for pliable ideolouges like Raygun and used a Navel Intelligence guy like Woodward to do so.

Nixon was too crazy and independant in his own way and I'd give anything to have Nixon over the Bushes right now.

I think the reason why we have an anemic media is that they like Bush and what he does. Sure a lot of small-timers wish he held more liberal ideas as far as science, abortion, and homosexuality but they like the trickle-down of the pumped up defence bizz., and having a war raging gets good numbers too.
