The words are old, but every one of them is a name for a real illness. "Pleurisy" is still a word very much in use by medical professionals. Miasma might sound quaint, but it only means "pollution" or "germy air."

When I was a kid, I got what my relatives and my old family doctor called "quinsy." A few years later, they all told me I had "grippe." In my 20's I was diagnosed for the first time with "pleurisy."

I just got off of the phone with Jodie Evans, who is with Cindy in Crawford right now. They had 3 and a half inches of rain last night. The camp is flooded, all of their supplies are soaked. Even worse, Cindy is running a fever and has a sore throat.

They really need your help. We are trying to dig out anyone who can volunteer to go to the camp and bring them fresh materials - umbrellas, chairs, blankets, etc... They are having a terrible time acquiring these things on their own, so they really are depending on us to help them out quickly.

If anyone can do anything to help, please send an email to [e-mail] - we can answer questions, give you directions, or send Cindy your thoughts.

Now, here's what gets me- the response to this one, lone woman, by both the right wing, and Crawford, Texas law enforcement has been predictably shameful. Matt Drudge (he doesn't deserve a link) has lambasted her, calling her a hypocrite and a "flip-flopper". Crawford Cops forced her peace march into a ditch, and then Bush sent out two junior-level functionaries out to try to intimidate her, And Free Republic offers up the usual idiocy:
