"Independent World Television" - sign up for Email Updates

Paul Jay, who has experience producing a show for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, is starting a news channel for Canada, the US, England, Ireland, and India for 2007.

It's called "Independent World Television."

The channel will take no money from corporations or the government. No ads.

Janenae Garofalo, Amy Goodman, and Laura Flanders are among the advisors.

It will be shown on the web and on cable channel "Link TV."

They want to build a list of 500,000 people who support the idea of independent news. They have 10,000 people on the list.

Here's an update for you. So far, I got 10 friends to sign up and donate... Also, I got a little bit of juice with Los Angeles' KPFK progressive radio, and just brought up this with my contact there. She too loved the idea and asked me to send her the link (which I just did after I just got home). So we can count on this information being put on the air here in Los Angeles, on a very progressive radio station.

which makes it currently unavailable to us apartment dwellers. :-(

You can sign up for email updates if you don't get "Link TV."

Also, they would like to be available for free on the video-on-demand cable channel, though that hasn't been finalized yet.

ON EDIT:

You have a point that I described "Link TV" as a cable channel in my original post, when it's actually a satellite channel.

33. Yep - signed up - brought home a bunch of promotional material

to give to local progressive and independent media activists . I also gave a heads up to local news editors of abc, nbc and cbs affiliates who i often write to about their coverage (or lack there of) of certain events or issues that are often given short shrift, distorted or censored entirely. (she says with smug glee)
