"Marie Pugh of Cado Mills, Texas walks through a maze of crosses that have the names of soldiers who were killed in the Iraq war, Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, in Crawford, Texas. The crosses sit on the side of the road by a makeshift camp of anti-war protestors near President Bush's ranch. (AP Photo/Tony Gutierrez)"

"Crosses with names of soldiers killed in the Iraq war line the road as former U.S. Army Spec. 5, Ann Bernstein of Durham, N.C., writes messages on her umbrella by at the roadside camp near President Bush's Crawford, Texas ranch, Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005. Bernstein said that she traveled from her home when she heard of Cindy Sheehan's story and wanted to show her support. (AP Photo/Tony Gutierrez)"

10. I'd never heard of "Arlington West"
I just didn't want us to make the same mistake Tricky Dick Cheney made with regards to Arlington National Cemetery.

18. Every Sunday, in Santa Monica, the VFP set a cross out for every
American who has fallen. People come and put the names on the crosses. I put Casey's name on crosses in the past (he was from my hometown.)

I've only been to Santa Barbara a few times, so I'm not sure if it still happends there, but every Sunday in Santa Monica, as the sun rises, the markers go up.

The Civil War dead were literally laid at the door of the Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

It was his property before the war.

4. So only Christian servicemen have died, huh?
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 01:09 PM by GeorgeBushytail
I didn't know that.

http://www.atheistfoxholes.org/

My father, Air Force Colonel John Sharp - a Unitarian agnostic and liberal activist - died from lymphoma caused by sampling Russian fallout in the late 50's.

He doesn't have a cross on his grave.

I am sick of the - we are all Christians attitude.

12. I don't think that is the point.
It is a physical symbol to get a point across. We can debate the religious symbolism, but let us not eat one of our own when Cindy is leading an internationally watched vigil in *'s front door.

Well... not really front door... as close as a peasant is allowed to get to the idiot boy king.

13. Christians borrowed the cross symbol from pagans
The cross is the symbol of the four directions. Just an "fyi".

21. You are correct.
In an effort to get more Pagans to convert to Catholicism, Catholics merged many Pagan and Christian symbols together... or just out and out stole the Pagan symbol as their own.

And think of what the cross meant to all the heathens killed in its name.

The nuts over at free republic have posted a link to the Drudge report. He claims he has received an email from Cindy's family. They are suppose to be ashamed of her. Any truth to this? I would be proud if she was related to me!

I cannot fathom how anyone can attack this woman. They must have hearts of stone not to have an ounce of compassion for this grief-filled mother who lost her son.
