Cindy S. didn't get arrested yesterday. What's the deal?

"Cindy Sheehan will be arrested on Thursday". At that time, she will be viewed as a threat to National Security.

There were several threads about this. I think some DU:ers even emailed or tried to call the Sheriff in Crawford. Maybe there wasn't enough jail space. Maybe there's not a jail in town. Either way, that was an empty promise. They were afraid to do it.

Yesterday, Bush "appears" at his ranch, to make a statement. He refers to Cindy Sheehan. I noticed immediately the tone of his voice. It was soft, subdued. He acknowledged she had the right to protest his policies. After all, he said gently, "It is America and that's her right".

Notice the difference here, DU:ers? THIS is an intensely dangerous situation for Bush, MUCH more dangerous than terrorist threats, bombings in other countries. This is one that Bush cannot fight, nor can he win. He is at the mercy of this woman, who has vowed to sit in the ditch for the rest of the month.

If he even so much as touches her, he risks the wrath of the American public, which is already at the straining point. If he ignores her, she'll continue to sit there, while her group grows and America watches.

He is truly painted into a corner. Check mate, George.

1. It was necessary for him to be "soft" today. I don't, not for one
moment, believe that he was unaware that the great Chickenhawk General Mike Gallagher, of the Army of the Crawford Coward, was revving up to march on a group of bereft American Moms to make a manly "I don't care 'bout nothin' but my bank account" stand.

After receiving negative feedback on his anti-Sheehan BBQ, I am sure General Chickenhawk got his marching orders. Conservatives march in lock-step. I do not believe for a minute that they act with any independence.

GWB is itching to have Cindy arrested. I am sure he has said this aloud. National Security was a reach, but if the Conservatives can incite violence, then she will be arrested.

GWB has plausible deniability now, it wasn't him; he was nice.

He is such a little, evil, vindictive man. I can see him screaming, "Will no one rid me of this woman."

<end rant>

2. it's almost mythological
the most powerful, rich and ruthless man in the world is rendered completely helpless by a grieving mother in a dusty ditch.

7. I agree. They're not passive about this.
They just don't know what to do. It's amazing that a Nobody out of Nowhere** could just appear on the scene and Check-mate him like this. That's got to drive them crazy. She has an enormous amount of power, and she's most certainly aware of it.

I think you're right. They're trying to figure out a way to eliminate her without the blowback. Because as long as she stays there, the risks grow by the hour. So they've got to get her out. But how? Maybe they'll try secretly paying her off, with like $1,000,000 to shut her up.

But she seems so principled, so unafraid of them that she probably won't take the money.

**not my words. I'm just trying to convey how they think.
