MSNBC: Chemical weapons found in Iraq!
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 09:42 AM by IndianaGreen
MSNBC correspondent is now reporting that a US unit has found a factory of chemical weapons in Iraq. The factory was run by insurgents and the military thinks that they were trying to manufacture them to use them against US troops.

It took a US invasion to create conditions in which chemical weapons would be manufactured in Iraq.

On edit:

The MSNBC reporter was Mike Fletcher and he just finished his live report from Baghdad.

1. Well, finally!
At least they found chemical weapons, even if they had to be the catalyst themselves.

7. Most people will either not understand that it was run by insurgents
repubs will have a field day saying "told you so!"

This will conviently fail to understand - with the help of the media- that it was our invasion that planted these seeds.

9. That will be the headline, and 90% of the people won't read the rest
of the article. They will just assume that the invasion was for a good reason. More propaganda.

20. sigh -- the anti war movement gains more ground,
evidence that bushco and blair fabricated evidense for the war mounting every day, banging the military action against iran beginning...and now a cache of chemical weapons have been found?

bushco and the ''main stream media'' are good at their jobs.

this only reenforces in my mind the need for a real confrontation with corporate america if we are to ever have a democracy in this country again.

23. Remember at the close of the ground war
Fox reported every other day "Drums of Chemical Weapons Found!" and Mobile Lab Found on Trailer" only to have them tested, quietly, and without another headline, to explain that they had found fertilizer or a machine to produce hydrogen for recon balloons. The story I saw said they found some chemicals in a building that they believed had been in the control of the insurgents, but they don't even know what the chemicals are, much less that they were chemical weapons. Sorry, but as Chuck once said: Don't believe the hype.

25. Mike Boettcher is the reporter (I reported him as being Fletcher)
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 10:37 AM by IndianaGreen
He is on now!

On edit:

The reporter said that the military found a chemical factory near Mosul and that the chemicals are similar to some found in Jordan during a raid at a house in which Al-Qaeda suspects were arrested. The reporter said that the US military fears that Al-Qaeda wants to detonate a chemical weapon to cause mass casualties and panic in Iraq, as the people arrested in Jordan wanted to do in Jordan.

26. U.S. Forces Raid Iraq Chemical Facility

U.S. Forces Raid Iraq Chemical Facility

BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. forces raided an insurgent facility that may have been producing an unspecified type of chemicals, the U.S. military said Saturday. It was unclear what was being produced or whether the materials were intended for weapons, the statement added.

U.S. troops, acting on a tip from detainees under interrogation, raided a "suspected insurgent chemical production facility" in northern Iraq last Tuesday, the statement said, without specifying the location.

However, the military cautioned that ongoing testing at the facility was "insufficient to determine what the insurgents had been producing." The military said it also was investigating which insurgent group was operating the facility.

The military has found many suspected chemical sites in the past, none of which ended up containing chemical or biological weapons. Testing of such sites can take several days.
