Thanks to the McLennan County Sheriff's Office
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 06:50 PM by Dylan Garcia
Never have I negotiated with finer law enforcement professionals than those I met on a dusty road in Crawford, Texas. Please send your well wishes and thanks to the McLellan County Sheriff's Office:

With Sheriff Larry Lynch at Camp Casey

Seeking common ground with my friend, Sergeant John Kolinek

Negotiating with Lieutenant Sid Franklin, my favorite cop in the whole wide world

PLEASE LET THESE GOOD, HARD WORKING, PATRIOTIC AMERICANS KNOW THAT YOU APPRECIATE THEIR COMMITTMENT TO FREE SPEECH AND THEIR PROTECTION OF THE INHABITANTS OF CAMP CASEY

Sheriff's Office
Sheriff Larry Lynch

1. That was very thoughtful of you. :^) I must say that all thigns considered
it sounds like the cops have done a fine job of keeping peace and not intimidating anyone from either side.

7. Done. Thanks.
Things could easily go from bad to worse without the protection and support of those who enforce the law. Glad to see them stand up for truth to power. I wonder if they've suffered any consequences at the hands of the Bush administration's lackeys?

9. This is the same thing that happened in DC for the 1/6/05 Rally & March
The police could not have been more courteous. What a change from the '60's and an exceptoin to some of the stuff that goes on still.

Good work.

13. An honor to give this its third nom!
The way these guys have behaved for the most part enabled my wife not fear for my life and let me go join Camp Casey this upcoming weekend for a 4 day stint.

Yep I'll thank 'em when I get there. I wish more urban Law Enforcement types (and a few other rural ones as well) would take a note on these guys caught between several different hard places.

Thanks for being a good rep for Peace Dylan. Looks like ya did real well.

15. How's this?
To the Sheriff's Department:

We who oppose the Iraq War do not know what your politics are. In fact, given where you are at, we are guessing that you are probably Republicans and that you support President Bush, as we do not.

Nevertheless, we have heard from our friends at Camp Casey how wonderfully decent, fair, and professional the Sheriff's Department has been throughout this whole thing.

As one patriotic American to another, I want to thank you for recognizing that the First Amendment rights to assemble, to petition for redress of grievances, and to be heard are absolutely fundamental to our precious freedoms.

Thank you so much for being such good Americans and for treating us fairly even if you disagree with us. You and your whole department are models of decency.

I just wish there were some concrete way for us to show you our gratitude.

Sincerely,
...

16. First, thanks to you, Dylan, for being there. You're a blessing to...
...Cindy and the nation. Second, I sure will send a letter of thanks - snail mail - to these fine individuals. There's nothing so precious as a sensible, responsible law enforcement officer.

Never Give Up, my friend.

28. Another thumbs up
theHandpuppet, who was at Camp Casey this past weekend, also spoke very highly of the local sheriffs and deputies.

She said they worked under grueling heat conditions, yet kept their cool and made sure everyone else did, too. At the end of the peace rally on Sunday, she thanked each one of them for their professionalism and cooperation.

30. I'll second that motion
Spent the weekend at Camp Casey and have to say the men and women from the Sheriff's Office were thoroughly professional. I really appreciated their efforts, especially when there were some anti-Cindy folks there who wanted to stir up trouble. It was a blistering 100 degrees and they stood in the sun all day between the two camps and kept the peace.

Thanks also to Dylan for such an excellent suggestion!
