2. Their "extension" wasn't technically legal.

In order to vote themselves an extension, they relied on a bylaw, which turns out was not applied correctly. This according to a NYT correspondent who was a guest on a TV show -- damned if I can remember which news show though. I think it was on PBS -- Lehrer?
