Bill Clinton took an ass whupping from the parent of a dead soldier
President Clinton met with family members of Soldiers who died in Somalia.

Per Clinton's Book "My Life"

"Delta Sniper Randy Shugart's father was furious at me, and angrily told me that I wasn't fit to be Commander in Chief. After the Price he'd paid, he could say anything he wanted as far as I was concerned." (Clinton did not send the troops to Somalia, george's father did.)

May I editorialize? - Bill Clinton took it like a man. Maybe that's why bush isn't stepping up to meet the mother of a fallen soldier. He ain't got the balls. And all conservatives know Bill Clinton has a big set. They've dreamed about that pair for 10 years now.

9. I'd love to have a beer with Bill Clinton
I'd love to have him come to my house and we could sit in the garage and drink beer and chat. I was an undergrad at the University of Arkansas when he was a law school teacher. Our paths never crossed that I know of, but as an intern for a local TV station I got the opportunity to interview him when he was governor (1979.) I'd love for both him and Hillary to come to my little hick town in South Mississippi and piss off every knuckledragging piece of shit who had the opportunity to know he was in town.

4. And this was a case where it really wasn't Clinton's fault
Bush Sr started the Somalia war CLinton was merely given it and pressured by Republicans to keep it going.

To their credit Adid's faction was killing off innocent Somalis left and right it could be seen in a way that America was obligated to help out in some way (if anyone has the power to intervene in a real genocide it is us) plus we had the UN's backing.

Anyways Republican controlled congress said NO to additional gunships and support NOT Clinton.

21. Yep. From the moment Lame Duck GHWB said he was
sending troops to Somalia, I figured he was doing it to look good to everyone just before he left office (humanitarian, starving babies fed by U.S.) BUT ALSO to hand WJC a situation as he took office that would inevitably become a difficult one to handle.

I remember thinking that was about the lowest of the low stunts that GHWB pulled while in the WH.

And frankly, Clinton, for someone who had no military experience and who was just beginning his presidential duties, did handle it about as well as anyone could, given the circumstances and the sabatoging by the Republicans in Congress.

I hope this issue gets some newsplay in the coming days and weeks. It can only help the Dems and hurt the other side, IMO, when the comparison is made.

16. I'll admit to being a Bill Clinton fan and I'm not unbiased, but
I don't believe he would have had the mother of a dead soldier camp out on the side of the road instead of speaking with her, regardless of how unpleasant the encounter would be. He is a compassionate person who understands the grief of loss. Bush crows about being a "compassionate conservative", but he doesn't even know the meaning of the words he uses. He is a cowardly, pitiful excuse for man who is playing at being president.

I really love your posts!

Bill Clinton took it like a man because he is a man.

Bu$h, on the other hand, is a spoiled child. He has no empathy with or sympathy for any of the grieving parents and families of the dead and wounded soldiers. He is a coward.

edit: What was it like to interview Bill Clinton? How fascinating that must have been. What questions did you ask of him? What was he like?

15. Hello Cottonbear and thankyou very much for the kind words
I have a very warm place in my heart for Bill Clinton. He will always be the Big Dog to me. Beautiful Horse.

Godawful hot the past month. I cut all the spring bloomers hoping for some color this fall. The only things I have to brag about are Sun Coleous on the South Patio (Beautiful); Oleandar on the east side of the house which I planted for my wife's birthday in May (they are growing like weeds) and the Crepe Myrtle with Watermelon colored blooms lining our driveway on the west side of the house. They are my babies although they are ten feet tall and five years old, I truly love them. Went to the French Quarter two weekends ago for Satchmo fest, great music and great food (what else is new?) Great to hear from you. I'm always looking for your posts.

19. Hi, BOSSHOG
We have a lot in common; a great love for the Big Dog, New Orleans, food and gardening. I love your posts, also.

BTW, my front yard Crepe Myrtle is over 20 feet. The city is always threatening to cut it back because of the electric wires and hurricanes, but they seem to always find a reason not to. It is beautiful. Mine is lighter than the watermelon color, but not light pink. I love it.

BTW, if she runs, I will support Hillary. I believe she's smart, tough and compassionate. I would also love to hear the damn opposition's fits if the beautiful, smart and popular Clintons occupy the White House again.

20. Hello Juajen
I truly love our crepe myrtles and we have no electric lines in our neighborhood (all underground). I haven't pruned them once in five years and they are goshawful beautiful, about ten feet apart. They will soon start overlapping. Its rather bizarre because every time I see them, which is every day, I pause and just admire them. They are so statuesque and colorful and handsome.

I've sent Hillary money for her Senate campaign. I wish her the best and I hope she does run for President.

Is New Orleans awesome or what?? We are 52 miles from our driveway to the parking lot at Decatur and Elysian Fields via Chef Highway and Poland Avenue and Chartres. I have to get to the Big Easy at least half a dozen times a year. My wife loves it too but she doesn't like going down there at night. We believe if we live to be 400 we may make all the restaurants in town.

Great to get your post.

22. It has been so wet here that gardening has been somewhat difficult.
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 03:28 PM by CottonBear
Your Crape Myrtles must be beautiful! I love that deep, rich watermelon shade. It is such a shame when people "Crape murder" them by whacking the tops off yearly. You wouldn't do that to an oak or a dogwood so why do it a Crape Myrtle? That's a pet peeve of mine!

My beautiful Crape Myrtle with pale orchid pink blooms (Sioux)had to be limbed up some. That was a chore. I had to borrow one of those arborist's pole saw/loppers from a friend. The tree had grown like crazy over the past seven years. It is now as tall as my two story townhouse! The beautiful pink blooms were driven onto my patio and my car by the incessant rains (instead of gently blowing away on the wind). What a mess. I'm hoping to tidy up the patio garden tonight as we've had 4 days without rain! The leaves and blooms and exfoliated bark are awfully hard to sweep up when wet! Mental note: Crape Myrtle is not the best patio tree because of the year-round tree debris.

My butterfly bush is doing well. The lavender blooms attract lots of butterflys and bees. I've got pale pink roses and sunflowers too. The ageratum (perennial that blooms in the late summer and fall. The ulta-violet lavender blooms dry to gold with the first frost!) is growing out of control after all this rain as is the Nandina bush. Pruning and dead heading is in order.

We still hope to make our way down to Lacombe in September. New Orleans is calling me. I must have grilled oysters and oyster po' boys and gumbo and beignets! I'm hungry right now!

Cheers! CB

edit: The horse is my filly's sire, Coromino! Her name is Cotton and she looks just like him! Here's a picture of her at about 6 months and 3 months of age. I've gotta upload newer pics soon. I just got a digital camera and a cell phone camera so I can take lots of garden and pet photos.

24. I truly love the horse pics
My Dad was a big horseman. He had three pair of Belgians. More pets than working horses. My Dad left us last April to join Mom in Heaven and it was painful to get rid of his horses but it had to be done. They have good homes. Crepe Myrtles are truly mesmerizing to me. They, like Mimosas, are trees you don't want close to the house but what incredible specimens. We have some monster (soon to be monster) Mimosa's south of the house. I believe they grow about ten feet a day. Seems like it. We have some beautiful Nandinas north and south but they haven't grown much. The wife loves them so I take the utmost care of them. I can't keep up with technology. Digital cameras?? But I am communicating with Georgia at the push of a button. I've heard those Erster Po-Boys calling you.

25. Belgians! I love those horses! I used to ride a big, black Belgian mare
named AC. She had feet the size of breakfast plates!

I know a man around who raises draft horses. I think that they're Percherons. He has a stallion, a mare and their two offspring: a yearling filly and a two year old gelding. They are HUGE but very gentle. He uses them to pull carts and do farm chores!

It must have been quite a job to find good homes for three pairs of Belgians. I bet they eat a lot of hay and grain! I hope that they are happy with their new people. Did your Dad live in Arkansas?

The Mimosa trees just finished blooming here. I know that they're a non-native weed tree but I like them nonetheless!

Happy gardening! CB

23. Ha! Lookie here, a reference to that story on the freeper site
From Feb 2003:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/851292/posts

Now whether their take on the matter is accurate, well, nevermind... can't stomach to read past the first couple of posts.

I find it rather hypocritical to say the least that this was discussed there, in light of their pig sqeals about Sheehan! Oh, the irony!

Anyway, thanks for the reference in the book. And the page number...just what I needed for a some stuff I'm dealing with on another discussion board with some pro-war bush folks. Thanks!

27. Damn Navy CPO's, think they know everything....
Oh yes, thats right, its because they do! My former Chief's never had to get tough with me, something that is inherent to CPO's,they just always had a way of shaming me into owning up to my mistakes and teaching me how to be a man.

You remind me of an MCPO that I had in my troubled early days, he saved my ass more than once. He did not pull any punch's, but he was always very fair and extremely patient with me, as long as I showed him respect and was honest with him. He also stood up for me because my work was always 4.0, I just had a hard time adjusting to Navy life. Guess he saw something in me that I didn't, imagine that. Great post Chief, always find them insightful and informative, RR.

32. Thanks Shipmate
It is a selfish act of Chiefs to take care of their Sailors. And we had one helluva support network to make us strong and respected up and down the chain. A good closed door ass chewing by a Chief was much more effective than Captain's Mast and its corresponding Paper Trail and Sailors knew it. A Chief who doesn't stand up for his Sailors isn't a Chief in my mess. I recall a few commands ago that a young Chief went two quarters in a row without nominating one of his Sailors for Sailor of the Quarter. I asked him why and he said he didn't have any Sailors who were worth a shit. I told him a Sailor is a reflection of his Chief so he apparently wasn't worth a shit. With a little grooming and old goat mentoring he had the next Sailor of the Quarter. God, I loved those Anchors.
