Veteran Offers New Campsite to Camp Casey, Closer to Bush Ranch
Veteran Offers New Campsite to Camp Casey, Closer to Bush Ranch
August 16th, 2005

Camp Casey is moving closer to Bush Ranch…

A veteran and relative of relative of “the man who had fired a shotgun in frustration over the protests” has offered his property to Cindy Sheehan and Camp Casey. The property is closer to Bush’s Crawford ranch.

“A neighbor of President Bush’s has offered us his land,” the source said. “It’s got plenty of acreage for us, it’s private land, we would have legal permission to be on it, it’s much closer to the ranch — in fact it’s across the street from his (Bush’s) church.”

“We have taken him up on his offer,” the source added.

Sheehan was not immediately available for comment.

Sheehan was expected to begin moving as early as Wednesday morning.

This is a small victory for Cindy Sheehan who is in her 10th day of protest outside of Bush’s Crawford Ranch.

According to the source, the land offered to Sheehan is owned by Fred Mattlage, who is a distant cousin of Larry Mattlage, a man who fired a shotgun over the weekend in frustration over the commotion caused by the vigil.

‘I support what you all are doing’
The source said Fred Mattlage made the offer saying “I’m a veteran, I support what you all are doing and I want to offer you my land.”

1. How simply wonderful.....
and ironic...that this guy would be a relative of the shotgun guy, and a Veteran on top of that!

Love it!

5. Bet that pisses Larry big time!
Well, I would guess that our two foot dictator will be moving to Camp David within the next week.

31. That would be a bad move,
Camp David is surrounded by public land.

6. Veterans understand what is being done to our military.
Vets relate to stop loss and the short rotation schedule to combat zones. Added to the VA situation, and the chickenhawks, and a war of choice-a big one, many, if not most vets take issue.

where Bush attends, maybe they should all join him in fellowship. Ha Ha

Maybe when Bush walks out of church on Sunday, his conscience will creep up on him and the good lord will force him across the road to meet with Cindy.

If he'll talk the talk, he should walk the walk.

4. What fabulous news.
Ms Sheehan & her supporters could camp undisturbed. No nuts driving by, no hanging out in a ditch.

The fact that he's a vet & a relative makes it so much sweeter.

Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 06:22 PM by pnorman
but I think that the momentum of the Cindy Movement has become too large for such Rovian tricks. If he were to try that stunt, he'd be OVERWHELMED with condemnation ... and not all from Cindy supporters.

Give him the benefit of the doubt in this, and be prepared to give him as much support as we now give Cindy. He'll NEED it!

PS: I just subscribed to the online edition of the Texas Iconoclast ($10 for 3 months ---- CHEAP!). Check it out here: http://198.65.14.85/ That publication also deserves our support.

29. Yes - the Texas Iconoclast is run by real heroes. I get the...
print edition, and I'm always concerned that they might have to close down. They seem to have very little advertising, but they hang in there.

For those who aren't aware of it, it's the paper from Crawford that backed Kerry rather than B* during the election. I'm sure that their local support has really gone downhill. To me, it's money well spent to support these courageous people.

30. That they're still in business in that part of the country is a miracle.
And also, a reminder that decent and courageous people are EVERYWHERE --- including in the "reddest" of regions. But if they lose their advertiser base, they'll most certainly have to shut down their print operation. but online?? It won't take too much to keep it going ... it's clearly run by committed people. But it will take SOME $$$. Everybody here on DU: Consider if you can spare a ten spot to give it a look-see. A sudden rush of on-line subscriptions will do WONDERS for their spirits (not to mention the means of keeping up the good work). Remember: The Texas Iconoclast was there well before this month's happenings.

"The Lone Star Iconoclast began publication in December 2000 and has published weekly ever since. The newspaper is owned by Smith Media, Inc. and has both a print edition and an online edition. The online edition mirrors much of the content that appears in the main print edition."

December 2000 was the Casus Belli for us here on DU also.

14. and now the swift-boating of Fred Mattiage begins
Pretty soon, the RW hate machine will start in on him, his family, his dog, anything or anybody they can find. If there are no skeletons in his closet, they will invent them, and the RW echo chamber and its blogo-netherworld will repeat them as often as it takes to divert attention away from Cindy Sheehan's message. At all costs, the message must be drowned out by attacking each and every messenger.

15. I googled G Dumbya Bush and church
and came up with Canaan Church. According to Google Earth it is located west of the pig farm and is NOT on a direct route from said pig farm to Crawford. It is closer, as the crow flies, to the farm than the present Camp Casey.

On balance, a safer, bigger spot versus out-of-sight (out-of-mind?).

I can't figure how to copy and paste from Google earth or I'd include that image.

He has property on both sides of the road ... a full acre for us to camp! We are so excited!!! We can fit more people and we will be closer to the ranch. Miracles, miracles."

Yeah,I'm betting the Bush boot licker's won't have ANY problem with the Freeps continuing their little rant on PUBLIC land--AKA the ditch.

Cindy and her group were an entirely different matter--one that needed to be taken before the City Council today. Prepare for HYPOCRISY.....
