"Some people are trying to paint her as one crazy woman against the war, and she’s not. A lot of people feel like her and want to know what the noble cause is,” said Karen Meredith, referring to Cindy Sheehan.

Meredith should know. Her son, Ken Ballard, was killed in Iraq. And she’s going to Crawford, Texas this weekend.

However, the 51 year-old mother, whose only child was killed by small arms fire in Najaf, May 30, 2004, is making the trip from Mountain View California for somewhat different reasons than what prompted Sheehan to camp out near George Bush’s vacation home and wait for an answer.

“Personally, I don’t want to meet with the President. I don’t think there’s anything he could tell me,” Meredith said. “One of the reasons I’m going is because there’s a whole other story going on besides Cindy. I don’t want to take anything away from her,” but wants to keep the focus on the larger question of the war in Iraq."

Sheehan to leave Crawford, Texas

CRAWFORD, Texas, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Iraq war protester Cindy Sheehan said Thursday she will leave Crawford, Texas, to be with her mother, who has suffered a stroke in Los Angeles.

Sheehan, whose son Casey was killed in Iraq, has been in Texas since Aug. 6, demanding a meeting with President Bush. She has said she will stay there as long as Bush remains there on vacation -- or until the president meets with her to explain to her why her son was killed.

Sheehan said she and her sister, Dede Miller, will travel to Los Angeles to be with their mother, 74-year-old Shirley Miller.

"If I can, I'll be back," Sheehan told reporters in Crawford. "If I can't I wont be back -- but I will be back as soon as possible."

11. Thanks....I looked it up on Google on my own since neither DU LBN or

other Forums had the info. I posted the Yahoo Announcement in DU LBN for folks like me who didn't know.

I was really upset that DU'ers didn't post this in LBN. What is this? Are we becoming like Faux or CNN we have to hide that Cindy had to leave Crawford?

I had a hard time finding this info out..although I thank you guys for the info...I had to ask twice.

Why the lack of LBN that Cindy had to leave? Her Mom had a Stroke FGS!
This whole thing isn't just about US...why not post it somewhere here on DU without "couching statements" saying...oh well the movement will go on..etc...etc...while many of us DU'ers didn't know what the hell was going on?

Anyway, thanks for the replies from those I asked who were quick to reply.

It's not the end of the world by any means. Others will show up in Crawford and hopefully someone will step forward as a Mom or Dad who lost their daughter or Son in Iraq to fill in for her while she's there with her Mom. I'm glad Cindy has "her" priorities straight.

Anyone remember when one of Bush's daughters had her appendix out and Chimp made one visit because he was in the middle of a "Campaign." Which was Selection 2000 Campaign?

Look at the contrast between Cindy and the Bushies. I think we should have been PROUD that Cindy flew home to her Mom Immediately.

13. I checked the front page of Latest Breaking News and couldn't find

anything...so I posted what I found on Google myself there just now for those who missed Matcom's post which must have dropped to page 2 or something.

DU is so big that news scrolls through faster than many of us can see it unless we are here all day sometimes. I was out for a few hours and couldn't find a darned thing...and I'm a great researcher. :D.

5. My daughter just called me and was all excited.

She is a flight attendant and was ready to board her flight at Dallas/Ft. Worth and who did she see at the airport? It was Cindy Sheehan. My daughter went up to her and hugged her and told her how sorry she was about her mom. She also thanked Cindy for all she is doing in Crawford.
