It's sad that Cindy Sheehan's mother had a stroke, sad for her -- that goes without saying -- but sad for antiwar people (it's not quite a "movement" ... yet). The media has paid attention because it has had an individual to center its story on. A person, particularly a sympathetic person, is what Media are drawn to. Without her fronting the action, Mainstream Media will have an excuse to go away, and they will. Cindy's name is a slogan and those in it with her can only hope they can find a way to keep the name out there (and, being the Paranoid Pessimist, I have my doubts that they'll be able pull that off -- and, as always, I hope I'm proved wrong).
There's a lesson in this for leftists and progressives, if they're willing to learn it. An individual frontperson who can personify the story is a much needed ace in the hole.
Of course anyone with at least half a heart wants Cindy to take as much time as she needs to be with her family. But if all were to suddenly to become well and she were able to get back on stage, I think that would be a good thing.
Get well quick, Cindy's mom.
