Bush Plans Sept. 11 Reminders

By RON FOURNIER
AP Political Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - What began as one mother's vigil on a country road in Texas two weeks ago has grown into a nationwide protest, putting a grieving human face to the miseries of war and the misgivings about President Bush's strategies in Iraq.

....

The president's falling poll numbers - less than 40 percent approve of his handling of Iraq - could drop further, threatening his military plans in Iraq, his agenda at home and Republican political prospects in the 2006 congressional and gubernatorial elections.

But will that happen? Will one woman's demand to meet the president outside his vacation home be viewed someday as a tipping point against the war?

....

Changing the subject would help Bush, and he has a chance to do that with the upcoming fourth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist strikes. Aides say the president plans to invoke Sept. 11 in his weekly radio address Saturday as he begins a weeklong push to remind Americans why he believes the United States must stay on the offensive in Iraq and not bow to terrorists. He plans to address the Veterans of Foreign Wars on Monday and a National Guard group on Wednesday.

21. But he caught Bin Laden like that! SNAP! I'm kidding! I joke!
Can't remind the public of your failure to address the issue, to block 9/11 investigations, to refuse to meet soldiers' mothers...

Hopefully if he pushes the 9/11 button often enough, people will indeed become sick of it.

4. The churches will be full of Iraq - 9/11 ties you can count on it
9/11 falls on Sunday this year and you can look forward to propaganda pumped through the sound systems and over the projectors and spewing forth from the pulpit expressing how we must support our troops and the president in this glorious war against the terrorist in Iraq.
It will not matter that they will be lying and aiding a criminal in the house of God because it will further their cause.

12. VFW & Nat'l. Guard -- but it's CINDY who's exploiting the troops?
Once again, Bush props himself up with people under orders to make him look good. And the wingers have the gall to say that Cindy, who has every right to grieve and talk about her grief, is exploiting her son's death. They are utterly lacking a sense of irony, aren't they?

When it is perpetrated by Bush and his compliant mouthpieces in the MSM. I'll be on a media blackout a few days before and after so I don't have to listen to the jingoistic propaganda which is bound to be vomited forth by the Republican machine.

17. Morphing Again...9/11 = Iraq
You CAN tell what their "strategery" will be for 9/11. The Republicans know that there are still enough of their followers who believe that Iraq caused the 9/11 tragedy. A man from Texas who lost his son in Iraq was interviewed at Camp Casey. He took the opposing view to Cindy Sheehan, he said repeatedly that it was important to remember and honor the 9/11 victims by STAYING in Iraq. (It is going to be the same tune....different verse, when Bush gets back to Washington.)

I hope the Democrats will have a UNITED response to this by simply saying, "Of course, most INFORMED Americans know that there is absolutely no connection between 9/11 and the war in Iraq. Why would Republicans, including our President, try to mislead the American people by propagating such a lie?" (...and yes, use the word, "lie".) It would be a perfect opportunity for Dems to talk about Republican-motivated "misinformation/lies".

20. And it's bush's greatest achievement!
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 03:46 PM by donkeyotay
What other accomplishment can he point to?

Bush and his fundie administration were busy trying to restore honor and dignity to the WH when Osama snuck up. Turned out to be a wonderful thing for the warmongering administration, tho. What luck.

Yeah, you've got to commemorate that.

Edited to add: Can anyone imagine what the Bush administration would have looked like without the war on terror? We'd be in year 5 of the reign of the Education President. Kind of frightening thought isn't it?

23. Remember 9-11 and remember Bush failing to get Bin Laden
and attacked a country that had nothing to do with 9-11 attacks.

Bush lied us into a phoney war that only made Iraq a terrorist training camp while more insurgents and suicide bombers call Iraq home.

President Bush reading "My Pet Goat" while a second plane was heading to smash into the WTC and also one was heading towards the Pentagon and one was crashing over PA. Already, hundreds were dead from the first plane slamming into the WTC. This is your leader in action during the worst terror attack in the nations history, and he was aware of it at the time he was reading, and this is what he chose to do.
