Why Bush can't meet with Cindy
Many people are still wondering why George W. Bush has not met with Cindy Sheehan and/or other Gold Star Mothers. I am surprised that no one has referred to Dr. Justin Frank’s psychological study of GWB. He supplied some real insights into GWB’s behavior in his book, Bush on the Couch: Inside the Mind of the President. Dr. Frank questions ”his ability to grasp reality. And if his actions revealed an unacknowledged -- even sadistic -- indifference to human suffering, wrapped in pious claims of compassion, I would worry about the safety of the people whose lives he (Bush) touched.”

If Dr. Frank’s analysis is correct, Mr. Bush’s actions when he first met with the Sheehan family are totally believable. His failure to meet with Cindy now results from psychological, not political, reasons. Mr. Bush’s recent actions do not dismiss, but only strengthen Dr. Frank’s observations. Even Republicans are now puzzled by Mr. Bush’s behavior.

1. interesting
I'd never heard of this book, but what the doc says makes sense. I've always thought Bush had a cog loose upstairs.

BTW, welcome to DU!

2. With all respect due Dr. Frank ...
... it is not really all that difficult to see behind the mask George W. Bush wears. From my own point of view, it's sociopathy with sentimentality. Dr. Frank elaborates to a great degree, but it closely matched what I found, and I'd imagine that a lot of people had that experience.

Bush started out acting strangely, and he's just gotten worse over time. I would expect to see some very off-the-wall behavior from him once he gets back to work from his vacation at Compound W.

5. I agree and have been thinking...
If Bush came out to talk with Cindy, it would have made him look good. For instance, if after that creature mowed down the crosses, Bush had come out to condemn the action and finally talked to Cindy, it would have been in my opinion a totally positive thing for him to do publicly. But he didn't. So I understand why Republicans (with half a brain) are puzzled.

What makes sociopath's fearful? Being found out with regards to the fact that they are really not like the rest of us?

It is a no win situation for *bush. Not to take anything away from your analysis. Welcome to the message board, :hi:

7. No win for bush..
Yes but - the right wing spin machine would go to work for Bush.
Bush meets with Cindy - condemns destruction of crosses. (Major headline). Anything Cindy had to say regarding the meeting would be spun too.

Then Repukes could go on being their evil selves under cover of being "civil" and all the kool-aid drinkers could run around saying what a gentleman Bush is!

I've noticed the kool-aid drinkers I am around are strangely silent of late...
