Talk show host ends Senate talk

Joe Scarborough says he will not be coaxed from his TV post to run against Katherine Harris.

By Associated Press
Published August 21, 2005

TALLAHASSEE - Former Rep. Joe Scarborough won't challenge Rep. Katherine Harris in the Republican Senate primary, becoming the latest potential candidate to turn down the opportunity.

Scarborough said Saturday he doesn't want to return to politics now and instead will renew his contract with NBC to host Scarborough Country on MSNBC.

"When party leaders approached me three weeks ago, I told them how difficult a campaign would be this year considering my personal and professional commitments," Scarborough said. "Besides, I never cared for candidates who had to be coaxed into a political battle. Either you feel it in your gut or you don't."

Scarborough cited his show, which is taped in his hometown Pensacola, and his desire to be at home while his youngest son finishes high school.

Republicans fear that Harris won't be able to attract enough Democrats and independents as she challenges Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson.

1. He just didn't want a murder investigation to come out of a senatorial run

5. He's too busy playing detective.
What with all the more pressing issues of good-looking white people missing in Aruba and falling off cruise ships, he has no time for political matters that would pay a lot less.

7. A loser repub against a DEM incumbent... is he ok?
Don't know much about Bill Nelson. Can he stand up to the lie machine that is going to back Katherine Harris? I mean, Bush owes her from the 2000 vote rigging, so she's a shoe in, right? (Unless the votes actually get counted.)

9. "Explain Her Dead Body in My Office?" -- Ok, I won't run !!
This would have been a good race to watch -- can't you just image the explanations that would have been flooding the airways as to why a female staffer's dead body was found in his office. There are rumors that the original report included cranial fractures, but those observations never made it into the final report.

Mr. Scarborough, go ahead and address the issue anyway, you don't have to be a candidate for Senate to clear the air.
