Local politics - mayoral debate in NYC - UNNANOUNCED |
|
I managed to catch it by pure chance on CBS today - the first one also unnanounced on a cable channel I don't get (not on Direct TV). The panel was unbelievable rude to all candidates. Still, there was substance in the debate and it helped me make my mind. But very few watched. it seems to me a concerted effort in the media to make local politics invisible. And why not? GOP has their shill in place here - why air any possibility of a challenge?

1. Duh, there's at least one poster in every subway platform in the city. |
|
At least all the ones I normally ride on (and that's Queens and Manhattan).
Damned little TV advertising for it, I agree.

2. Adverising is NOT what's needed. Candidates pay for that. |
|
A debate (no articles yet on it) is supposed to give voters actual info rather than self serving slogans. Such as - my conclusions: Ferrer - the same slippery demagogue as last time Weiner - sounds to much like a party hack with the "we'll lose unless...", "Bloomberg is a nice man" and the faith based thingy - just lost my vote Virginia Fields - the only personable candidate but not too informed - lost me Gifford - so far best choice.
If people watched the debates, they would have heard Bloomberg last time saying that poor kids get asthma because of lack of hygiene and maybe refrained from voting for him - or better yet - came to vote against. New Yorkers are disgustingly disinterested in the race.

3. the ads the original poster mentioned are ads announcing the debates |
|
Not ads for individual candidates.
They're everywhere. They tell the dates times and locations of each debate. The first one was on New York 1 which is Time Warner's NYC Cable channel. Most people in the city have cable so they were able to see that debate on NY1. The second one was on WCBS Channel 2 this morning at 11AM. If you take public transportation you should have seen the ads for the debates.
