Don't Forget Political Compass

I've known for a long time that I'm a sellout for liking anyone but Sharpton or Kucinich. Most DUers (myself included) are much more left and libertarian than even them.

1. Yeah, I'm way down in the left libertarian quadrant with those two
I think I was down there near the Dalai Lama, Mandela and Gandhi.

Yet my top choice is Edwards. And I see he is close to Bush. How can that be? Yes, I know he is not a lefty like Dennis, but close to the Chimp?

Dennis was my original choice, too.

2. Why does it matter where you are on this compass?

What does it prove?

3. The compass is supposed to measure actions
...instead of words. At least this is how it was originally conceived.

4. Who made up this compass? I honestly want to know.
Is it really based on any facts, or just someone's opinions that are somehow being taken as facts now?

7. it's a UK group
We've scrutinised the statements and, more tellingly, the voting records of the hopefuls of the two major parties, in response to requests from many of our American visitors.
Within the United States , of course, real (and imagined) differences between the candidates are more greatly magnified. However, compared to other western democracies, especially those with a finely-tuned system of proportional representation, most mainstream political activity in the US is concentrated over a more narrow ideological range. We note too that conservative Democrats tend to have more in common with Republicans than with the liberals within their own ranks.

5. Wow, Edwards is the next best thing to Bush
Again, another reason why I refuse to support that man in any venture.

I've seen these graphics before, and they're quite true to postion statements and voting records. Edwards isn't a true Progressive, he just plays one on TV.

6. Kerry is more authoritarian than that
He supported the PATRIOT Act, took Bush on his word re: Iraq intelligence, and in the past he denounced the Vietnam war but still went to fight in it (he knew better, but followed orders anyway).

The fact that he also harps about the risk to his OWN life and the lives of his fellow soldiers says something about how Left Kerry is; The Vietnamese in the path of his short military career don't seem to be worth mentioning.

I'd say the same is still true, for Iraqis especially.
