The Swift Boating of Cindy Sheehan and 2000 Letters for Cindy
Frank Rich wrote another good New York Times Op-Ed piece yesterday, The Swift Boating of Cindy Sheehan - see home page &/or
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2022229Rich writes critically of the Administration's history of making personal attacks against their critics to distract attention from their foreign policy failures.
He chronicles these attacks against war heroes such as John McCain, Max Cleland, and John Kerry as well as those well-positioned to offer enlightened criticism like Richard Clarke, Specialist Thomas Wilson, and Ambassador Joseph Wilson.
Considering the White House has consistently used smear campaigns which we eventually learn have no basis in fact, it is disturbing that these falsehoods are so willingly parroted by the White House press corps.
Rich closes by concluding the White House has gone too far this time trying to smear Cindy and that the rising anti-war sentiment cannot be casually dismissed.
I recommend the entire op-ed as a worthwhile read. I have included it among the many articles and letters to the editor featured on the Crawford Action Center at my
websiteIt is worth highlighting that Rich makes reference in this article to a guest editorial written in the New York Daily News by the mother of a fallen soldier. Our letters to the editor campaign - see
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2017850 - is truly having an impact. The more letters that are published, the greater chance we have to increase media coverage of the personal tragedies this war has wrought on families like Cindy's. We have passed 1,500 and are looking to reach a target of 2,000. If you have yet to write a letter, or have friends that may be interested, click here.
