Houston Chronicle: Liberal Democrats want the party to take a stand
WASHINGTON - Liberal activists have been on the warpath this summer, with some camping out near President Bush's ranch and demanding the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq while others are pushing for the defeat of Supreme Court nominee John Roberts.

But these groups, whose views have been amplified by Internet bloggers and activist groups, often have been at odds with Democratic lawmakers who remain wary of alienating moderate voters.
....
Some members of the Democratic establishment believe it would be politically foolish to attack Bush at every turn.

"The real risk for Democrats is being perceived as against everything," said Charles Cook, who publishes the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.....

But pollster Andy Kohut at the Pew Research Center said agitation by liberal groups may be evidence "of vitality in the Democratic Party" and a sign that party leaders have lost touch with many supporters.

1. NEWSFLASH: Moderates and RINOs want the party to take a stand
I am so sick of the MSM using terms like 'far left' and 'Michael Moore wing' of the Democratic party. The 'squishy center' and swing voters want strong, vocal and coherent opposition to this insanity too.

3. This is the way the Rethugs marginalize the entire Democratic party, and
they have a willing corporate, lapdog media to regurgitate their talking points.

5. I know and it is so distorted
But it is also incredibly obvious too. I'd like to put a counter to track the number of times 'far left' is used as opposed to 'far right'...I think it's pretty obvious which term is used more in the MSM to try and marginalize. What's bizarre is that the 'far left' is closer to the majority than the 'far right' but you'd never know it if you only listened to the MSM.

2. Pew right. Agitation by left is evidence of vitality in Democratic party.
Screw Charles Cook, of the "nonpartisan Cook Political Report." It is this kind of cautiousness that makes those who espouse it in our party look like they stand for nothing--going along to get along--not having the courage to stand up and say the Occupation of Iraq is not working.

A withdrawal date would indeed "take the wind out of their sails" because the insurgents could no longer say we are planning to stay permanently in Iran and take their oil.

Thanks for the article, Rose Siding.

4. "The real risk for Democrats is being perceived as against everything"
I guess that is only true for Democrats because Republicans sure were against everything clinton wanted and they won everything. I think charles cook is a troll who is deliberately setting out to destroy the Democratic Party.

6. Reckon Cook ever said this about the Rethugs during Clinton's presidency?
I would seriously doubt it. This "non-partisan" man's focus seems to be dumping on Democrats, in my experience.

"Some members of the Democratic establishment believe it would be politically foolish to attack Bush at every turn."

No, not at every turn. Just when he's wrong. Yes, Bush** is wrong that often.

And it's very telling that "some members" of the Democratic establishment don't see that.
