Limbaugh and "Staff Puke"
I had originally posted this as a reply to someone else's post on Limbaugh and Cindy, but no one replied, leading me to two possible conclusions: 1, I had posted it too late in the thread to generate much interest; or 2, people didn't think it was intelligent enough to warrant a response.

Since I have an almost egomaniacal estimation of my own intelligence, I have chosen to believe option 1, and so am reposting for comment/criticism/etc.

I think Limbaugh really stepped in it when he described Hackett as a "Staff Puke." While it's true in some services (like my own US Navy, thank you very much) that officers are either line (i.e., combat) or staff (like my own JAG Corps, thank you very much), the Marines are a whole different animal. Every Marine is trained for combat, and if my recollection is correct, Marines who have training for administrative roles alternate between combat and staff billets.

By trying to insult Hackett, Limbaugh therefore inadvertently insulted the entire Corps. Perhaps if his anus had permitted him to got to Vietnam he might have met a few Marines and known this earlier.

1. For a sniveling draft evader (to put it nicely) like Limp....
to call an honorable soldier any kind of name is just way beyond disgusting. The man is as dishonorable as he is cowardly.

2. Republicans love the troops!
As long as they don't run for office as Democrats. Judging from the viciousness that they are attacking Hagel, we can expand that to, "Republicans love the troops as long as they don't run for office as Democrats or question their war-loving, AWOL pResident."

4. These people don't give a flying fuck.
They'd smear their own mothers if their mothers badmouthed bush.

I mean, look what they did to Kerry via the swift boat swifties and the purple heart band-aids that everybody pranced around with during the republi-CON convention. They smacked Kerry around with it, but in the process smeared EVERYONE who's earned the Purple Heart, not to mention the way they've smeared shit all over the Purple Heart itself. That is a HUGELY prestigious award - to be respected and even revered - for the sacrifice it symbolizes. And they gleefully made cowpies out of it.

The most damnable people on the face of the earth.

7. These people eat their own!!
Today he said it is time to tell the left that they are questioning our Patriotism. I really would like one of them to say that to my face. I am a Viet Vet and my son is in Iraq for the second time. They just might get a couple of my Purple Hearts up their cowardly asses. Because that is what they are COWARDS.

5. I understand this to be the case. What I don't understand is the
lack of Marine response. I expected the Marines to come out blasting, but the silence was deafening.

8. Similiar to what they did concerning Plame
"desk jockey" and such. I don't know about the Marines but they didn't either they ran it up the flag pole so there was little time to respond and just hope someone saluted. They didn't stick around to see if anyone did.

9. In Vietnam, Marine fighter pilots did rotations as ground FOs.
These Marine fighter pilots, on the ground as forward observers in combat, would direct the close air support of their squadron mates in, say, F-4s. This put these pilots in some very dangerous situations on the ground, like the Battle for Hue City, Khe Sahn, and the Quang Tri/DMZ battles.
Ru$h got out of serving in Vietnam because he had a pain-in-the-ass, but why does he insist on being such a world-class pain-in-the-ass?

11. Agree-- and I still say that by insulting Kerry's Purple Hearts,
they insulted the US Navy and EVERYone who ever suffered a wound in service to their country and received the Purple Heart.

I can't think of anything that pissed me off more in last year's campaign.

12. How do you think the Marines are reacting
that's what I'd like to know.

I've also always wondered how the Navy reacted to being told they didn't know how to give out a medal, not once, but several times (Smear vets).
