CBS station (Boise) won't air Sheehan ad: "No proof of ABSENCE of WMDs"
CBS Affiliate Will Not Air Sheehan Ad Because There Is “No Proof” Of Absence Of WMD In Iraq!

BOISE, ID--A television ad in which Cindy Sheehan asks President Bush questions about the Iraq war has been rejected by Boise affiliates CBS and FOX. The same ad began airing in Salt Lake City on Monday on NBC CBS and FOX affiliates.

The timing of the ads coincides with the President’s visit to nearby Donnelly, Idaho where the President will be staying through Wednesday.

Representatives for the two stations expressed different responses for their rejection of the ad. The Vice President of sales at Fisher Broadcasting Inc., which owns KBCI (CBS) said: “In the spot, Ms. Sheehan accuses the President of the United States of being a liar. She claims the President lied about, among other things, the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. There is no proof that we are aware of regarding the truthfulness of her claim. We require proof of claims such as this. Until that is provided, our station will not carry this ad.”

Media buyers were similarly asked to supply proof for a Waco television affiliate. When sent findings from the 9/11 Commission, the local station decided to run the ad. However, the Vice President of sales at CBS Boise responded, “If it was not known until after we took to war then it’s hard to understand how someone could have lied…hindsight is always 20/20…that’s our point.” A representative for KTRV (Fox) said: “We are not accepting the spot because inventory is sold out. A very late order request makes it difficult to clear.”

on edit; I'm not ignoring your question about the radio station. It's kind of an embarassing little broadcasting phenomenon that only intelligent design can explain.

12. To be fair
I think he is questioning her claim that Bush lied, not whether there were WMDs in Iraq. It could be argued, especially by RW yahoos in Idaho, that he was mistaken, but not a lying. I'm not saying his decision was the right one, just clarifying his rationale, based on this quote.

17. They want proof of "no WMDs," and how do you prove "non-existence?"
Yeah, he's covering his backside.

All KINDS of bad things could happen to a TV station if they aired a commercial calling Bush a liar.

However, NOTHING happens if you call a decorated war hero a liar, other than the guy who called him a liar gets a second term in office.

:grr:

15. This is interesting, especially the Fox station's response
I would suggest that someone living in that area peruse the station's schedule. My local station, for example, carries CBN News, featuring Pat Robertson. Since I'm assuming that programming time is PAID for as an ad by the 700 Club, if the Boise Fox station carries anything like that (along with any wingnut religious zealot programs that regularly spread lies about gays) then someone could hold them to their own policy.

16. Sold Out? Yeah, Right...
The day I hear a radio or TV ad exec say "we're sold out", you can be assured you've been told a lie.

These stations build in promos and add in extra slots. When I worked in radio we actually squeezed 62 commercial minutes in an hour (it was magic I tell ya).

This was punting the ball. It'd be interesting if another non-political person with a wad of folding green walked into that station. Wanna bet he/she would get what they wanted?

Sold out in Idaho in August? Yeah, right...

20. How about statements by David Kay?
He was Bush's hand picked weapon inspector, and even he has said that there were no WMDs in Iraq.
