What!! OH Dems not proceeding with Taft impeachment articles
per Chuck Todd on C-SPAN just now. He was noting that Taft was breathing easier because of this since some of the Rs would have gone along with impeachment if the Dems proceeded. So, why would the Dems shoot themselves in the foot in OH?

1. Because they're not dems. They're opportunists and imposters
masquerading as dems. There's a lot of them out there.

2. good move on by the dems
1 Taft's term would be up by the time the impeachment went through
2 Repubs can and would block if they wanted to
3 He is far better as a symbol of the corruption as Gov. Every time he is on
TV, goes out in public, or gives a speech somebody will say "the disgraced Gov
of Ohio, Bob Taft"
4 His coingate buddy Tom Noe will take him and the party down with him

6. I second that.
Better to put him in prison after his term expires. That way, he can continue to be a symbol of Republican bullshit, graft, and corruption for years to come.

14. You might be correct here. Better to have the issue.
This way, everything the pugs do during this term will be so heavily scrutinized that they will be able to do much less damage.

Or maybe not. *crosses fingers*

3. GREAT MOVE by DEMS, not shooting foot
they have him exactly where they want him, impeaching him opens the governorship to a new repub who would argue that the party is rid of "the bad apples".

We have him where we need him to stay until Nov 2006.

4. PLUS, there may be more scandalous revelations coming
he and his party need to stay in office and plead "no contest" each time an allegation is proven beyond reasonable doubt.

You can't have a trial if the prisoner has been executed.

8. Agree
Taft's mini-scandal over his golf outings is just the tip of the iceberg. Imagine how much better impeachment would be if the process included all the other criminal activities of the rest of the Taft Administration and GOP GA leadership.

The same Ohio Dems who are holding their fire are the same ones who have done an excellent job of bringing all these scandals (Coingate) to the forefront. Their strategy has worked so far.

9. The Toledo Blade newspaper deserves much of the credit
The blade was pivotal in exposing the scandal and in proving that Taft knew in September 2004, before the presidential election, that funds had been misappropriated.

The Blade just plain rocks for their invetigative reporting.

http://www.toledoblade.com/

check them out, pick up a copy of the blade at your local newsstand.

10. (I speculate that) when this is all said and done
it will be proved that the repubs knew in Summer of 2004, and even Bush knew when he took Noe's campaign contributions, that millions had been lost from the BWC funds without any accountability.

And that they chose not to come clean to the public.
