In 2004, wasn't there a movement to make 9/11 a national holiday?

I remember that there was some sort of inanity going around, I think in 2004, about making 9/11 a holiday. (Or "holy day" as things are heading now).

Of course, this might just have been done to divide the country up more, pushed to make the Dem candidates look bad for not supporting it.

So, why no outcry this year? Why no talk about that?

We have the beginning of the regular football season getting under way on - 9/11. The Pentagon was going to have a big "War is Peace" march on - 9/11.

But no talk about making it a holiday (of course, that is a Sunday - but the Repukes, who talk about govt. employees having wayyyy too much free time, would have made it the trailing Monday) this year.

I'm sure that all the stadiums are going to have the Ultra-Reich-Uber-Patriot events going on (I think I'm going to puke by the halftime show . . .)

2. I believe they did make it "Patriots Day"

Which pisses me off beyond belief because Maine and Massachusetts already have a Patriots Day - in April. In memory of those real patriots who fought the British at Lexington and Concord. Paul Revere, William Dawes, the "shot heard round the world" and all that. It's a big deal.

And now the name's been usurped!

3. I think you're right...

I was just trying to find some examples of patriotic flowers/teddy bears I remembered seeing for sale last year but no luck. (The whole concept was completely obscene to me and I wanted to prove I didn't imagine it)

I did see one mention to 9/11 as "Patriot's Day" on some goofy fundie site selling flags and figurines, but that wasn't what I remember from last year.

Perhaps good taste prevailed.
