I agree. Of course it's not obvious to everyone; all the more reason to say it. Folks here know it, but I keep finding people who just don't believe it, don't want to know, can't accept, think I'm crazy (a lot of the latter).

At least three of the soccer moms I associate with (don't tell anyone I'm a soccer mom...) say that "I just don't have the brain for politics" or "It's just too confusing, I don't know what to believe" or "I don't vote because it's a waste of time"

I am encouraged to know we have soccer mom's at DU - though, I knew we must, because there are a lot of y'all!

Don't give up - keep talking to those other moms - politics will matter to them if they realize that 'politics' = their kid's education; their kid's chance of growing up with health care; their kid's chance of being drafted into the military and killed before they have a chance to marry and have their own kids.

25. Another soccer mom for truth and justice

I'm a soccer mom, too (among other things), and it makes me sick what is happening to our country. This bunch of thugs in power is stealing all of our resources, both natural and economic, for their own gain. They want to drill in Alaska for negligible amounts of oil, clear-cut our forests and pollute our air for profit, blow up the tops of mountains, etc. They see the pool of Social Security money, OUR money, as a cash cow.

The Social Security System is one of the most efficient government systems and just needs one or two small adjustments to continue its solvency for the next 75+ years. I'm really afraid that they're going to get their hands on this money, privatize it (partially or wholly), steal what they can, and the rest of us will lose out. Once the system is dismantled through privatization, it will be difficult or impossible to go back to the government system we have now that works so well.

It seems that this administration gets whatever it wants, by hook or by crook, and they have set their sights on our retirement money.

Oh most definitely, I do keep talking to them. Sometimes it's pointless, and sometimes they just really don't know and want some information to make a decision. And, sometimes, they just want me to tell them how to vote or what to think.

I'm doing my part. They probably think "Oh, here she goes again." But I don't care.

By the way, I still do find time to walk a precinct or two and to make a few phone calls. For all the hangups and "not interested"s, it's worth it when you talk to someone who really wants to talk to you and really wants some information. I actually had one person tell me that "politics is not relevant to my life". I was so dumbfounded that I just said thank you and walked away.

But I won't give up.

and they do it again and again and again, and the Dems and the media let them get away with it: when they can't get their way, they force the issue, whether by brute force (recess appointments, TX redistricting), exploitation of the rules (recess appointments), lies and deceit (anything they've ever done), secrecy (ditto on everything).

It's an abuse of power, a violation of the spirit of our entire Constitution with its checks and balances, and is profoundly un-democratic because it violates the systems and methods that have been set up for this democratic republic.

22. Anything that involves stealing such massive amounts of money from

US citizens will NOT be dropped by the neocons. Their greed is endless. Silence only means they are shifting to a sneaker strategy. I've assumed they would try to sneak it through in one of those last minute super-fat-stack-of-paper bills, not giving Dems enough time to read it. Like the Patriot Act. If most of the bill was on something popular or routine and this was buried well enough, it might be sneaked into law. Is there anything preventing them from doing this? Certainly the Rethugs in Congress have no scruples or shame that would hold them back. And as the recent Ohio election demonstrated again, election fraud is now well-established, so they don't have to worry so much about pleasing their constituents either.
