I'd never endorse such a thing, but someone else is going to get pissed off and do something stupid and immoral that I would never endorse and strongly condemn and insist upon lengthy prison sentences on the offender for doing or threatening to do. Literally even.

The fact that Time Magazine put her on its cover shows part of the answer, I think. Like Rush Liimbaugh, Coulter is useful to the people who support the Bush regime. Like the people who keep listening to Limbaugh, there are those who are pleased by her spewings - I suppose it makes them feel important, like they're on a winning team. Wouldn't it be pleasant not to believe in global warming or any of the other ugly truths that we have to contend with? Wouldn't you like to be able to feel that your country is in good hands, is winning in just conflicts, is respected and loved by honest people all over the world, and is led by an caring, strong, saintly President? For people working in dead-end jobs in a place that is not "cutting edge," there is a secret jealousy that is gratified by put-downs of more "sophisticated" places like New York City. Coulter is deliberately tapping into these fears, hates and jealousies. Limbaugh does the same. So do a lot of others. The sheer depraved cynicism of it is sickening but shrewdy calculated.

Reality isn't so pleasant these days, and there are a lot of people who'd rather believe the Coulters and the Limbaughs. In the absence of widely watched news media that report the truth, they can continue to get away with their constant lies.
