Ray Lahood, an Illinois republican says the BRAC actions are "as BUSH league as I have ever seen." How dare he!

Just think South Dakotans, if Tom Daschle were still your Senator, Ellsworth AFB wouldn't be on the list.

And ole Trent Lott lost Naval Station Pascagoula, his hometown.

Meanwhile, thanks to bush policy, our kids continue to get slaughtered in Iraq, as a tribute to those already slaughtered in Iraq because of bush incompetence, ignorance and lies. And the flags continue to wave in the hands of those not serving.

I think people can be asured few if any bases would have been on any list if they hadn't re-elected Shrub!

I know lots of Pubs are really pissed at the closing of 4 Ga. sites. They elected 2 Pub Senators, and a Pub Governor, and through all their dancing, failed to save these bases for our State!

I sure hope all these people recognize how wrong they were, and make all these folks one termers!

3. Have you gotten any news in Georgia

about the disposition of the squadrons at Naval Air Station Atlanta? Its probably too early to have any definitive plans but the squadrons will most likely be transferred to other bases or decommissioned.

I'm not sure of the Daschle effect but I do like planting the seed of discontent in the minds of thune supporters. If a person supported john thune there isn't much room in their mind for anything else.

13. I haven't heard anything about disposition of NAS Atlanta.

The only thing Gov. Perdue said yesterday wa sthat we have to move on, and there are several developers interested in the land, for all 4 bases I think. Surprise, surprise!!!!

8. I was somewhat surprised

that BRAC took the Naval Support Activity in New Orleans off the list. It has no military value but the city and the state proposed turning it into a Federal City at "no cost to the federal government." I believe that was the key phrase that forced their action. The post will be used for administrative headquarters for several organizations. BRAC beefed up Naval Air Station Belle Chaase south of New Orleans and very near the Gulf of Mexico, an ingenious use of "strategic criteria."

9. I've actually worked out of that NAS. I'm from New Orleans but...

live in Dallas now. I believe it has some strategic value still especially if Ingleside is getting the axe. As for the NSA (the one in Algiers), it serves one purpose only. It lets my in-laws shop at the Exchange. :)

11. Without a doubt keeping NAS open

was essential to our national defense because of its location. Its getting quite huge. They closed down the golf course to build more buildings where once was a course. I get to NSA on occasion. I'm going next month to a retirees seminar. I got it pretty good as a retiree, I'm halfway between Algiers and Keesler AFB in Biloxi.

The Admiral's residence on NSA (Algiers) is a national treasure. I hope that it will be maintained as is. Plans are to make NSA (Eastbank) a condo and to upgrade Chartres Street from Poland Avenue to the French Quarter. Also to put a cruise ship berth at the Poland Avenue Warf; maybe even run a streetcar from Elysian Fields to Poland. Grandiose Plans and I hope they come to fruition.

Used to be the USS William C. Law (can't remember the hull #, old age, I guess. Think it was DD763). It was a 6 hour sea detail to the pier.

14. If you can believe CNN, Shrub can make changes, but no other

Pres. has ever done so, and they don't expect it this time either. The only thing I've heard that could change things is that it has to go to Congress for approval and they're expecting quite a fight. I guess we'll see who has clout and who doesn't!

15. I'm no * supporter but I wish we would shut down many more

of these bases and put the money into social programs. Pork is pork.
