Robertson's worth - $200m to $1 billion - the Bank of Scotland loves him

http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=49&row=1

Pat Robertson: 'I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist'

-snip-

It may seem a bit odd for the Bank of Scotland to choose as its spokesman a man who has been compared to Ian Paisley. But bank officials say they are not concerned with Robertson's religious beliefs. Nor, apparently, is Robertson concerned with theirs.

He said: 'You're supposed to be nice to Episcopalians, Presbyterians and Methodists ... Nonsense. I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist.'

Why would the Bank of Scotland want to join up with a figure whose unpalatable views on women, gays, Democrats and others led one unkind civil liberties organisation to describe him as 'the most dangerous man in America'?

Someone more cynical than me might suspect that the Bank of Scotland covets Robertson's fiercely loyal following, the 2 million conspiracy wonks and charismatic evangelicals who, a former business partner says, 'would give him their life savings'. 'These people believe he has a hot-line to God.'
-snip-
------------------------------

Palast also said:

The combination of ministry and Mammon has provided Robertson with a net worth estimated at between $200m and $1 billion. He himself would not confirm his wealth, except to tell me that his share of the reported $50m start-up capital for the bank is 'just a small investment for me'.
-------------------

is there anything that could uncharm his following? seriously. how can these people be uncharmed?

2. $22M to $1T?
And without any miracles?

...Jesus must not have done it right. Must be all the poor that he hobnobbed with. You won't see Robertson making that mistake.

3. If he's found guilty of breaking the law and goes to jail?
Nah... That wouldn't be enough to do it, I'm afraid...

Then, psychiatric institutions?

Bwaah...It's too late for them to ever "recover" their sanity.

I am afraid nothing would work.

4. I think Pat Robberson has
preached too long, and he's made too much money. He thinks he's invincible. And he's got his roles mixed up, too (Christ vs. the Anti-Christ).

Or maybe he's racked with guilt from making so much dough off the hopes & dreams of others, who will just barely have enough to make it.

Eh, Pat?

Thanks for bringing this up. We should be hammering away at his business dealings.

8. I told my sister about what PR had said. She told me that she isn't
surprised he messed up the way he did. She said she was watching the 700 Club the other day and they were doing letters from viewers. One letter was from a 14 year old girl who wondered what PR thought about her dating a 21 year man who had been a long term friend of the family. He said he thought it was okay as long as they weren't having sex. His cohost said she thought he was very wrong about that and that a 14 year old should never be dating a 21 year old and a 14 year old was too young to date. If he thinks that is okay, I think his mind is going.

9. Wow. That's pretty amazing.
Someone should send some backup info on that "advice" to the Children's protective services in that state. That might get some tempers fired up.

You could be right about Pat. I checked the archives in the 700 Club about the "assassination of H. Chavez". There's a statement from the Old Boy. He obviously is not sorry for what he said. He said "it's much cheaper to do it this way". Just unbelievable.

10. Well, I don't doubt that it is cheaper. But it doesn't make it right
and it doesn't mean that it helps us in the long run, and that is incredible to think about.

5. Makes you believe in the concept of
selling your soul to the devil. Downright creepy. I'd like to be a fly on the wall in heaven when he tries to get in. But I guess they don't have flies in heaven.

You're right on that one, Pat. But, if you don't play nice; he may not deliver on all those promises
he made to you and your idiot followers while campaigning for re-selection last year.

That would put a serious dent in both of your portfolios.
