What the (wrong) right has learned.....just struck me today....

We have countless threads here detailing outrage (appropriate, in my view) of damage done to our country by the regrettable misadministration. We are processing their actions from our point of view, and the outrage is because it would not occur to us to be so bold and brazen and openly criminal to do what they do (Lay, Rove, Iraq, list goes on and on of course).

BUT - it struck me that they've learned something very important - they can get away with anything, because the CAN, and they DO. They've learned that after early outrage, things settle down...they create diversions or additional outrages, while their repeat -repeat-repeating lie propaganda machines nab the sheeple, the right base, fundies, etc.

UNLESS there is some leadership from the Dems - or somewhere, I'll take it from anywhere - to stand up to this criminal approach, nothing will change, we will continue our infinite threads of outrage. Actually, there is a shining light - Cindy Sheehan is showing us how it can be done. Will enough of us have the courage and conviction to follow? Will ANY of the Dem leaders step up to the plate, grow some balls, take off the gloves and take on these criminals???

So - again - why are they doing what they are doing? Because they've learned that they can .....and unless something changes big time, the pattern will not end.

1. I've also noticed they haven't needed to avoid offending...

in order to be accepted. So, trying to avoid arguing ideas that will offend the unwashed masses, doesn't seem to be a requirement to resonate with the public.

I think it's probably authenticity that resonates. Republicans are authentically assholes. Democrats have put forward a crafted image meant to avoid offending the public. It's better to focus on the long term goal of promoting social justice and strengthening a movement for social justice, rather than compromising at every turn, to hope to win one election at a time.

The idea that doing things because they can, has been expressed various places before. One theory I've read is that it is a sort of psychological warfare. Some right-wing bigwig said to a liberal "what you don't get, is that the public's hatred of you (liberals) is greater than their concern about the social issues that you talk about."

So, this could be part of that, meant to create fear and a sense of hopelessness in the anti-fascist movement.

2. The best thing to do is keep spreading the word. We can learn

from them. If you say it enough, it starts to stick. The difference is, we don't make our own reality, (lies), we have the truth on our side.

I keep telling everyone I know about the 72 million cut from LA. budget.

3. Yes, whenever you let a bully or an abuser get away with it,

get away with something small, they just get bolder. We let them get away with stealing the 2000 election. Everything else was just gravy for them. :shrug:

4. When you have the corporate media on one side

working the angles and muddling the issues, the other side has to realize that the playing field is not even. Unfortunately, this is a reality that Dems have to work with (see Kerry and the Tidy Bowl Vets during the '04 election; what Kerry thought would happen vs. what actually did happen).

Ignoring the corporate media althogether comes with definable peril.

In effect, the Democrats can be equated to "black folks" in this analogy--

Black folks have to work twice as hard and be twice as good as their white counterparts to get ahead. Unfortunately, we have to demonstrate ourselves beyond "unreasonable" doubt and often time are required to prove a negative on the character that we possess. This is a result of years of ingrained inherent prejudicial history that is imbedded within our society and is known as institutional racism (to read corporate media).

is typcailly outnumbered, and outskilled in debate, by the right representatives....if indeed the left view is even presented. Great point

5. You are absolutely right.

Start with your neighbor. Talk about politics. Talk about the outsized corruption. Talk honestly and openly and admit that Democrats have also made mistakes in the past. Point out that we did'nt let them get by with it for long, and we shouldn't let the Republicans get by with it now. Share your outrage, but not just with we who are convinced already.

7. JD that is the point

One person at a time, we have time on our side. My problem is sometimes being too aggressive and thinking the next guy has my limited knowledge (DU has made me feel really stupid and uninformed, by MY lack of knowledge, not anyone's put down!).
