6:41 P.M. - Efforts to stop the levee break at the 17th Street Canal have ended unsuccessfully and the water is expected to soon overwhelm the pumps in that area, allowing water to pour into the east bank of Metairie and Orleans to an expected height of 12-15 feet.

2. Survived the hurricane but can't stop the levees. Words just cannot

express how saddened I am with the people in LA, MS, & ALAB. My prayers go with those folks. I think this is what Hurricane Andres was sort of like, but we didn't have the wonderful internet we have now. The damage is unbelieveable. I only expected to see this kind of stuff in doomsday movies.

Let's put the blame where it belongs. bush's funding cuts have doomed these people. And they need to know that. EVERYBODY IN AMERICA needs to know that. This needs to be spread around EVERY office watercooler in America, in EVERY grocery store checkout line in America, and while pumping gas at EVERY self-serve in America. Whether your captive audience is pro-bush OR NOT. This needs to be driven home with a mallet.
