I can not recall the specific article that TIME wrote that pissed me off so much, but it had been posted here at DU a little while back. I had been following the details of DUers who were at Crawford and other blogs, which were different than the accounts in the article ( I will try to find the original article). Anyway, I wrote to them and this is the letter they e-mailed me today. Pretty sucky IMO:
Dear Emit:
We were interested to hear from you about the Aug. 22 Nation article on Cindy Sheehan and the anti-war demonstrations in Crawford, Texas.
In your letter you wrote that it was Cindy's group that sang "God Bless America"-- not the group of counter protestors led by a Dallas conservative radio personality as we reported. I've checked back with our correspondent and also looked at articles on the Internet covering the demonstration on Friday, Aug. 12. Both our correspondent and the news accounts confirm that it was the counter protesters who sang "God Bless America." Our correspondent e-mailed me, "The Gallagher group was gathered in the driveway opposite Camp Casey and sang 'God Bless America' before disbanding. I heard them singing.'"
Now, we aren't saying that the Sheehan supporters didn't also sing "God Bless America," just that at the demonstration our correspondent witnessed, it was the Bush supporters who sang the song. Certainly, both groups are free to sing this song.
Thanks for writing.
Best wishes.
