Manchester Union Leader rips Bush as 'aloof' over hurricane
This is the very conservative Manchester Union Leader of New Hampshire:

http://www.theunionleader.com/articles_showa.html?article=59785

Bush and Katrina:
A time for action, not aloofness

AS THE EXTENT of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation became clearer on Tuesday — millions without power, tens of thousands homeless, a death toll unknowable because rescue crews can’t reach some regions — President Bush carried on with his plans to speak in San Diego, as if nothing important had happened the day before.

Katrina already is measured as one of the worst storms in American history. And yet, President Bush decided that his plans to commemorate the 60th anniversary of VJ Day with a speech were more pressing than responding to the carnage.

A better leader would have flown straight to the disaster zone and announced the immediate mobilization of every available resource to rescue the stranded, find and bury the dead, and keep the survivors fed, clothed, sheltered and free of disease.

The cool, confident, intuitive leadership Bush exhibited in his first term, particularly in the months immediately following Sept. 11, 2001, has vanished. In its place is a diffident detachment unsuitable for the leader of a nation facing war, natural disaster and economic uncertainty.

Wherever the old George W. Bush went, we sure wish we had him back.

5. These guys were
drinking koolaid the first four years and now they've stopped?

Re-writing history is what they're doing. I was right here during those four years and that was not someone who you would want back.

At least they're writing now that he SUCKS BIG TIME.

Why didn't they mention that Gore or Kerry would have exhibited strong leadership and ordered those planes down to New Orleans to rescue those people?

The airline industry was bailed out after 9/11 with $81 Billion ..Is this how they repay their country?

7. What the fuck are they smoking?
"cool, confident, intuitive leadership"? Like hiding in his bunker for 3 or 4 days?

Like running around scared until he found his rabbit hole?

He was equally as bad THEN as he is NOW!

WE remember it as clearly as a minute ago!

He ran away then, just like he is doing now!

8. Oh, Pooh.
"A better leader would have" already had plans in place when it was obvious to anyone with cable TV that a Category 5 hurricane was going to slam into his country.

"Union Leader" once again claws at reality when they fawn that W was a "cool, confident, intuitive" leader after 9/11. The UL are nut cases.

So they got their panties in a wad today over his obvious dereliction of duty; which they downplayed into a decision about a plane ride. Tomorrow they will be kissing his ass again.

:puke: on the 'Union Leader'

9. Give them a break
It's hard to go cold turkey after so many years of addiction to Kool Aid.

10. No, I will not give them a break.
They should give this country a break.

They have been promoting the bilge of America as long as they have been publishing. A few words do not excuse them.

The 'Union Leader' has been committed to extreme "conservatism." They are just miffed by W's unfortunate PR.

They don't give a shit about the victims, they only care about "image."

They are still mixing the Kool Aid. They just want you to think it's not so lethal.

11. What's with this other Bush obsession? They were had.
There's no "old" Bush, unless they are talking about his scary mom.

Obviously a paper that one could use for personal hygene.

12. Back to normal for the UL
Looks like op/ed editor Drew Cline got called to the woodshed for his Bush comments. This morning e's back to normal, blaming the disaster in New Orleans on Kathleen Blanco.

Ill-informed, sanctimonious little prat.
