"Don't buy gas if you don't need it."
That's what he said.
That's his solution.
If you don't need any gas, just don't buy any.

I was about to go out and shop around for some gas.
I get a real kick out of shopping for gas.
Nothing like a brand new tank of gas to really perk you up.
But I don't really NEED any, so I guess I'll just stay home.

Did he really say that?
Yes, sadly, he did.
Un-effing-believable.

28. My Mayor just on the tube; " Don't use your cars if you don't need to"
He parroted Bush about conserving because there seems to be some local stations that haven't received their inventories in yet today so they're closed.

3. Yeah, I heard that too. To him that's probably the best idea he
can come up with, and when gas hits $6 a gallon, he'll say "I told you not to buy gas if you didn't need it". What a fucking ignorant, arrogant, unintelligent POS.

I just had an underground fuel storage tank installed in
my back yard.

Not that I really need gas, mind you. I just love having it.

13. Actually, I think that's good advice
It's not the ultimate solution, but it's not as stupid as it sounds.

Katrina has put a major dent in the supply side of the equation. However, when people start buying gas above their normal consumption levels (e.g. taking a bunch of gas cans down to the filling station) it puts an artificial spike on the demand side as well, which exacerbates the problem.

So, anyone who wants to have a positive impact on our fuel problems for the next few months should buy gas in the same or lower amounts as usual - and not rush out to stock up, as some folks have been recommending and doing.

16. I wonder if my boss would accept a note from Bush
Sorry, boss.... couldn't get to work 'cos Bush told me only to buy gas if I needed it.... so I've had to set priorities. Coming to work ranks somewhere behind Sunday afternoon drives and my Nascar tickets.... see ya' later."

18. I agree
If people have the option of mass transit, I think they should use it if they aren't even if it adds time to their commute. There are people who desperately NEED gas. If you choose to drive to work rather than taking a bus or train (if it's available), I think you should take mass transit for the time being so that people that NEED the gas aren't gauged by $6/gallon or run into stations that run out.

15. Luckily I live in a small town
And I can walk. I agree this is an idiotic game plane, but he's right, it needs to be conserved so that people who really need it, who are evacuating, who are being gauged by $6/gallon prices, can get out of NO and get on with their lives.

It's surprisingly cheap here (Bozeman MT) at just $2.849/$2.949/$3.049 (reg/mid/sup), but that is a $0.15 increase in just a day, with probably another $0.15 increase tomorrow.

29. There is ONE, count 'em ONE gas station open in Foley, Alabama.
There are probably 2 dozen within a couple of miles of what we laughingly call "downtown".

All the rest have garbage bags over the pumps.
The open station has a line half a mile long and cops are directing traffic.
