They can't even get a decent response to a hurricane that was PROJECTED to hit three days before it actually did. Can you imagine what would happen if a major earthquake hit LA, San Fran, Salt Lake City, Seattle or another region?

how do you think I feel! :)

Earthquake prepardeness folks have always told us to be prepared to be on our own for at least two weeks after a quake. Now I'm thinking I better be ready for four...

I live in Salt Lake City and they said that there is a 1 and 3 chance of having a 7.5+ earthquake in the next 50 years. Except that study is older now.

Our buildings, unlike those in your area, were not built to earthquake codes. They weren't enforced until about the 1970s and most of Salt Lake City has developed BEFORE then.

If we have a quake, we're fucked.

Even more fucked if it happens with Bush in power, as he's slow to do anything.

3. Do you have earthquake preparedness...
supplies on hand? There are some excellent videos available that show you how to prepare for/survive a quake and what to do afterwards -- they can be very helpful. Also, there are some pretty easy things to do to your house that can help keep it safe in a quake -- making sure it is bolted to the foundation and using cross bracing to strengthen the house really do work.

5. My house is brick.
And from what I've heard brick is NOT good in earthquakes. Most of SLC's homes are brick (in the city, not suburbs -- though there are a lot there, too).

6. I work for the Corps
we have had our budget cut, and are being recruited to go build Iraq. What do you expect us to do?? We have no funding, no support, and the President hates us and treats us like pieces of shit. He proposes a 1.2% raise for us every year, or none at all. He cuts our budget, he makes us compete our jobs. Do not hate the civil servants, sure, there are a few who abuse the system, but is that true of every company???

We are bastards at a family reunion.
