a US military presence they'd prefer not to have.

If the US refuses to let other countries help, it'll kind make it kind of funky for the US to criticize other countries who try to limit the sort of assistance the US offers when disasters occur elsewhere.

Bush better accept Chavez's generous offer - especially the oil. If the average American isn't hijacked at the pump they'll have money to donate to the relief effort. It's obvious that Bush expects donations to make up a large part of the relief effort. He needs to keep as much of our tax dollars for Iraq as he can.

Chavez was the one who was OUSTED by a coup. The PEOPLE of Venezuela resisted it and returned Chavez to power. Chavez was elected in an election that JIMMY CARTER (you know, the President guy?) signed off as legitimate. You need to INFORM yourself.

Also, the opposition to Chavez controls the media, so don't give me that crap about no freedom of speech.

He went to jail for a non-violent coup (that was inspired and encouraged by the fact that the government murdered its own citizens in an anti-globalization rally in Caracas). He served his time. He formed a poltical party. The party was won something like 7 consecutive elections now.
