My bumpersticker is illegal

I still can't believe it.

Some woman in my apartment complex walked up to me in the parking lot, gave me her psychic card for no reason and then started quizzing me on my "Support Kerry 08" bumpersticker. I thought she might want one, so as I tried to remember where I got the thing, I was also trying to remember where my extras were.

Um... she didn't want one.

What she did want to do was ream me out. This sticker is illegal she said. The next election is three years away, she said. There's a war going on, and a hurricane, she said. Then she said something about having been an admirer of his for a long time, and asking me if I'd watched him on television this morning with a look on her face as if it were a loyalty oath question, like "Did you support your president today?" (more like, did you get your mark of the beast today?)

Then she said that my bumper sticker was scaring people. It scared her.

I was coffee-less, in a hurry, distracted and frustrated because I'd been searching my car for a budget book and couldn't do my finances without it. All I could get out therefore was "It's a free country" and "I support who I support".

If I'd had my wits about me, I'd have said:

"If you're a psychic, then tell we what I'm thinking right now."

"Shouldn't that read 'psychotic'?"

"Sieg heil to President Gasman!" (Thanks Green Day)

and various things about how the president was AWOL again during this crisis, how N.O. wouldn't be in such dire straits if their levees hadn't been cheated out of money, how the war wasn't necessary.

But then again, she lives in my apartment building, and the last thing I need is a war with someone.

That is my first experience with being broadsided and attacked out of the blue by a stranger who just didn't like something as small as a sticker. Disagree, fine. But DAYUM!

The cleaning lady told me there was a woman living in our building who occasionally doesn't take her meds. She's not allowed to drive since she banged up some of the cars in our lot, scraping them as she went by.

I thought I'd been told she was a younger woman, while this one looked to be 40s to 50s.
