McClellan: Bush "wanted to visit," but "didn't want to be disruptive."
NOTE: I have PLENTY that I could say about McClellan, which would only result in a locked thread. FUCK him, though...I think I can get away with that. FUCK that little COWARD P.O.S.

Bush to Tour Katrina Destruction on Friday
Thursday, September 01, 2005

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,168127,00.html

WASHINGTON — President Bush (search) will tour the hurricane-devastated Gulf Coast region on Friday and has asked his father, former President George H.W. Bush, and former President Clinton to lead a private fund-raising campaign for victims, the White House said Thursday.

White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Bush will survey the Alabama and Mississippi coast by helicopter, then go on to New Orleans. He also will tour some locations on the ground. He got a higher-altitude view Wednesday when Air Force One dropped several thousand feet to fly directly over the region during Bush's flight from his Texas ranch back to Washington.

"The president has wanted to visit the area as soon as possible," McClellan said. "We didn't go sooner because we didn't want to be disruptive of efforts on the ground."

8. Disrupt what? Some person dropping dead due to excessive heat with
no water or food? They were able to drop supplies into Berlin at the begining of the cold war...they dropped MREs in Afghanistan...Yet not one fucking bottle of water?

I am so horrified and angered at this.

He'd need so much protection from angry mobs that it would disrupt order.

7. Bullshit, bullshit, BULLSHIT!
They didn't want to visit any earlier, 'cause Bushie doesn't want to get his feet wet...'cause he can't hand-pick an audience....'cause he might get cussed out.

Most of all, 'cause there ain't no good Photo-op yet.

10. They would've had to secure the area, make it safe and that won't happen
Check everyone, make sure they were all clean and dry and healthy before the photo-op. Yeah, that'd sure be disruptive.

I am trying to not get this thread locked either, am having a difficult time.

11. WHAT EFFORTS ON THE GROUND?????
The reason you are so widely HATED Mr. pResident is because you didn't order ANY EFFORTS on the ground in New Orleans......

You didn't order your administration to conduct a "Miracle at Dunkirk" type of evacuation.

You didn't order your adminsitration to drop food and water to the Super Dome....to the convention center...and becasue of that, people died.

You didn't order your adminsitration to send emergency medical teams into the Super Dome or convention center....and becasue of that, people died.

You didn't order every available boat, high-water vehicle, helicopter, raft or anything that could float to evacuate the hospitals......and becasue of that, people died.

13. Scotty has a point this time...
* showing up on my doorstep would be plenty disruptive (I'd be sitting in jail right now for smacking him right upside his head)...

Can you imagine him in front of those poor folks in NOLA after all that they have been through? How can they possibly get enough SS and armed forces between these folks and the Pres at this point? This ain't no set up town meeting with folks tossing soft-ball questions at him. He CANNOT afford to go there.

14. McClellan was misquoted
i saw the press conference. what he said

"we didn't go sooner because we didn't have tickets to the Superdome. We'll go next Super Bowl."

no, actually, what he said was...

"the president thought their might be dooty in the water, so he didn't want to go..."

no. actually, what he said was...

"me? down in all that shit, with all those guns and those angry people? i may be insufferably stupid, but i'm no idiot....

no. what he actually said was...

"sorry. i've already been saved, and besides, pat Robertson said he'll handle it..."

no. he actually said what he usually says. nothing. or a lie. impeaching him would debase the constitution. we should just make him have to pick up the bodies.

15. Are you kidding me? Bush showing up would be a security nightmare
There are armed gangs shooting at relief workers, it doesn't seem like the situation is under control enough for the POTUS to visit.

Besides which a lot of the relief efforts would be disrupted by his security detail.

19. I agree with him
Frankly I don't think any politicians but the relevant officials should show up right now. The situation is anarchy. There is no security. Not only is it not safe for anybody, let alone a high-profile public official, their presence would totally disrupt rescue and relief efforts. They would wind up diverting tons of resources for security or relief to the POTUS.

And frankly, I'd say exactly the same thing if Kerry or Gore or Clinton were President.

21. on 9/11: * didn't want to upset the school children
the "free world" was under a massive attack and rather than excusing himself to do "presidential stuff", he decided not to upset a classroom of children while the entire nation, including the children, lacked an organized response to the attacks on the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon ...

bush should just fire his Minister of Bullshit already ...

23. Sorry to say, but I think this is a good decision.
The law enforcement needed to adequately protect a president (no matter how bad) would totally sap much-needed help for citizens in danger.

And if he *had* visited the site, we would have called him an opportunist, just doing it for the photo op, etc.

I've gotta say that this is the right decision in my book.

30. So how would you like to be a fly on the wall in the W.H. tonight?
Can you imagine how the spin machine is working overtime in the White House right now. The prick is probably being fitted for a Coast Guard uniform, (with cod piece)and color coordinated bull horn. He's memorizing lines like "hurricanes hate us for our freedoms" or "we must stop hurricanes over there before they destroy us here". Rove is probably searching high and low for an African American to pose with the putz. I can't wait to see how they spin this catastrophe to make the moron look good. The sad part is, the sheeple will probably fall for it hook, line and sinker.
