People that don't believe in government have a tough time governing....

Repubs are by birth "anti-government". They are good at telling us everything "government" does bad. They really don't have a lot of good to say about government. Like Grover Norquist says, he would like to make government so small that you could drown it in a bathtub. It looks like they didn't need a bathtub - they have drowned it in New Orleans.

They are good at cutting government programs and cutting taxes so there is no money for those "people" programs. Most benefits should go to business, they believe, since they are the ones that "create" the jobs. So they cut funds that might improve the levee system around New Orleans, for example. They have an innate faith that government will survive whatever evil they can do to it. It cannot be destroyed. Their job is to always keep government as small and as weak as possible. They have succeeded.

2. The mayor of one city in the south said on radio that this would be a good

thing in the end because they would rebuild the city better than it was before. All put off urban renew will now get done and the people of this country would have a better New Orleans to go to in the future.

live with the illusion that the "private sector" will take up the slack. Look at chimp's action today - putting his daddy and his daddy's best bud in charge of rusting up some private donations to help with the relief effort. He's pissed away what's left of the national treasure waging an unwinnable war in Iraq, given billions in tax breaks to those already so wealthy they don't know what the hell to do with their money, and now, when there's an enormous crisis due, in no small part, to his own budget cuts, he's concerning himself with private fundraising efforts. He doesn't have a clue how to take charge and get things done.
