Sorry if dupe. Can you imagine? Another night with no bed who knows where. Hey Houston people, please open your homes for God's sake and your own.

Kelly airfield was one of the largest airbases in the country..
Now it is a business park. There are huge unused facilities there at the moment. Very close to the San Antonio Medical Center. I just watched a news conference that the mayor here in SA gave this afternoon. They'll be ready to take people in.

5. huge warehouse at Kelly USA in San Antonio
"Texas has agreed to accept another 25,000 Hurricane Katrina evacuees -- and they'll be heading for Dallas.

Details came late Thursday from Governor Rick Perry's office.

Officials earlier announced refugee groups from Louisiana will be housed in Houston -- at the Astrodome -- and at a huge warehouse at Kelly USA in San Antonio.

About 25,000 evacuees are expected at each of those facilities.

San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger says the first evacuees likely would stay at the Joe Freeman Coliseum. The air conditioned arena is near the SBC Center.

Meanwhile, the New Orleans airport today looked like a military scene, with helicopters flying in and out and transport planes landing to pick up the sick and injured..."

9. Yes, it's a dupe.
Morning news here in Houston said there was confusion when the buses arrived last night (early this morning, actually). There are now about 20,000 refugees in the Astrodome. They actually have cots, rather than having to sit in chairs.

Reliant Hall is being used as a staging area so buses won't just be asked to leave. Medical triage is being set up, as many of the arrivals are dehydrated, hungry, etc.

It's estimated that about 100,000 refugees are in Houston. Some are in the smaller refugee centers & many are staying with family & friends.
