I just watched the Landrieu/Cooper video.
The one where she thanked every single person who was doing such a good job. One problem with that. The people she was thanking were NOT doing their jobs. She thanked Frist, Bush, Clinton, and then started over again.

I felt Cooper's righteous anger in seeing that woman eaten by a rat in the street.

I thought maybe folks were over-reacting to her interview today, but they weren't. Cooper was honest and clear, Landrieu pandered.

I will call her office tomorrow and say what I felt when I watched.

I called my GOP rep today. His aides in both the local office and DC office seemed not to know what the tragic situation was that I talked about. I asked them if they were really as out of the loop as that, or if they were just not wanting to see reality.

One said...well, let's not attach blame. I said wait a minute, lady, it is past time to attach blame. I said the guy you work for has made it on Bush's coattails for 4 years now. And Bush doesn't have any coattails anymore.

She said you don't need to be rude. I said it is not rude, it is honest and you guys don't want to hear honest.

I will make more calls tomorrow. I had a thread locked tonight because Howard Dean was honest. I don't mind though. I really don't. It is past time for letting them shush us up.

So anyway I apologize to those I thought were reacting too much today about Landrieu....you were right.

2. Good job! I missed the Landrieu interview, but I sure heard about it.

That disgusts me! Hey, a LOT of us NON-Louisianans worked for her, sent her money, and did what we could to support her in a tough reelection campaign, and all she can do is simper like this?

She should be ASHAMED of herself. I want my money back. Last time I contribute to her efforts to do anything. I won't waste my time waiting for people like her to grow a spine. Kinda like Dianne Feinstein out here. We don't have to wonder whatever happened to Monica Lewinsky. We've got them instead. :grr:

BTW - got a link to the video? Thanks, in any event.

31. Thanks. I finally got to watch it. I see what you mean.
Y'know something? A few days ago, here, I posted a recollection of the late Morton Downey Jr., a wrong-wing, extremist, loudmouth, provocateur with overinflated tooth-bonding and a propensity for chain-smoking (lung cancer later killed him, and he realized it too late, which was typical of this guy's ability to recognize the real truth instead of the angles, sales-pitches, and catapulted propaganda). He had a favorite derisive saying, a smear, of those like us - liberals and Democrats - who would tell the truth and would stand for something more noble and more human and more genuinely compassionate, and with a little more wisdom and perspective than just how far you're able to see past your own wallet. He called us "Pablum Pukers."

Well, there she stood last night, in all her glory, talking to Anderson Cooper. Miss Pablum Puker America, 2005.

I have NEVER heard such simpering, mindless, irrational crap! Gidget Goes to Hell. Everybody just whistle a happy tune and thank the president, and thank frist and Reid 'eh? (HAH! She actually included a Democrat in there to be "thanked.") Like Monty Python put it - "always look on the bright side of life" while you're hanging on the cross, battered and bleeding to death, suffocating under the weight of your own body, facing imminent oblivion.

WHERE was the outrage? Oh, I'm sorry, Little Mary Sunshine, pardon me for interrupting your circle-jerk. I LOVED it when Anderson Cooper referenced all the politicians congratulating each other while people out there were suffering and dead women's bodies were lying out in the street in the open, being eaten by rats. Little Miss Tinky-Winky and her Happy-Face Brigade. NOT. A. CLUE.

WHAT A DISGRACE. She SHOULD be ashamed of herself. I certainly am. I'm also ashamed that I, a Californian, went to the extra lengths for someone who wasn't my candidate, and helped her get reelected. I heard her appeals in a difficult reelection campaign, and I responded - and with more than just nice, cutesy little platitudes. She wanted to THANK her colleagues and bush? FOR WHAT? Her performance last night was as nauseating as Susan Molinari's ridiculous, shameful, near-irrational chirping keynote speech at the republi-CON convention in San Diego (I believe, the one produced by then-RNC Chair haley barbour) when it was Gidget Goes to the republi-CON Convention. What an embarrassment! What an EMBARRASSMENT!!! And THIS one last night, if she were my daughter, she'd be turned over my knee. And she'd find herself stuck there.

34. Now that was one great rant.
No way I could have said it better. Never did I think that in my country I would hear a news anchor on TV speaking of a body being eaten by rats, or even bodies just lying in the streets while one politician praised another when she should have outraged.

"I called my GOP rep today. His aides in both the local office and DC office seemed not to know what the tragic situation was that I talked about. I asked them if they were really as out of the loop as that, or if they were just not wanting to see reality."

****************

These people are really out of touch. Someone told me about an interview on Nightline tonight, I didn't see it myself. Anyway, Koppel was talking to the guy at FEMA who said that people in New Orleans have food. Koppel said something like........have you watched TV lately? And apparently he filled him in about what's really doing on there!

They don't want to take blame but really they are to blame! And btw, let me offer a way to re-frame the blame issue. The next time someone says something like..........don't blame me, it's not my fault. Tell them it's not about blame, it's about accountability and responsibility!! The govt, after all, is responsible.........it's time they started acting like it!!

On the defense of Landriew, one thing she has right (though cannot experss it for shit) is this is not the time for blame but the time to work. She is pandering to get the help... knows what works.. meanwhile some are looing for end runs...

8. I didn't see any video but I have watched her "perform"
over these last few days--also the Gov of LA. I am NOT impressed with ANY government offical in terms of dealing with this catastrophe!

Dems or Repubs alike, too many are just trying to shove this mess under the carpet.

Aside from "the looting, the looting" mime, much of the talk revolves around "rebuilding" N.O. and getting the oil industry back on track down there. Not nearly as much concern for immediate rescuing of DYING HUMAN BEINGS!! Heard a LOT of "excuses" but saw NO "action".

Goddamned bastards....... :nuke:

BRAVO MadF for your efforts. I've been writing to everyone I can find an address for. Wrote my limp-wristed Senator today DEMANDING she do her job and get the rescue operations OFF THE DIME.

Been writing continually to Media outlets. Next comes the Prez, FEMA, Homeland, DOD and whomever else I feel needs to hear the truth.

I will say that I DO appreciate whatever help did get in, albeit feeble.

14. Anderson was right
Landrieu looked taken aback. Then she thanked Bush again. If she thinks that will get more help...good luck to her. Asking nicely doesn't work with thuggish criminals.
Cooper, Gloria Vanderbilt's son, has had his eyes pried wide open.
He cried in another segment. He's seen a lot over the last few days.

16. don't you think it was a set piece?
I mean they were, oh so nice, actually cooing over Mike Brown from FEMA. And just a short time later, she (Landrieu) was asked a question about body counts and her answer was about gas prices. I would try to find out what happened on the body count/fuel price question. I think it was a set piece, Cooper going after her. Does he 'know' anything?

It's got Karl Rove written all over it they have to destroy her.

In no particular order,

The irony is Sen Landrieu has been arguing for flood avoidance and evacuation efforts for years! I've seen her and listened and if there is one person "NOT" responsible for this human tragedy it is her.

She KNOWS the TRUTH about the nations biggest NIGHTMARE. Why would Cooper go after her? Is he looking for real answers? No, he was emotional but why HER? If he doesn't know that Sen Landrieu's major issue in DC has been hurricane preparedness thats one thing. Does Cooper know this fact, that she pushed hard for preparedness?

Now, all I'm wondering is if we just witnessed another Karl Rove moment. What is motivating Cooper is all. May be he has heart. If so then like I said, I'm wrong and I'm sorry.

The TRUTH should be his objective, not another Karl Rove soundbite. Who arranged the interview? Would he talk the same talk to others?

<then>next up Mike Brown

Ahh so sweet - to MIKE BROWN interview - softballs and stupid stuff for FEMA

<then>Landrieu's back

Landrieu back on and the fuel price/body count thing to make her look incompetent! Did you see this part of it?

I'm telling you it smells like a hatchet job. She is Rove's biggest threat. She was making rescues herself yesterday for crying out loud, she must be exhausted.

They are afraid of her. And they should be, she will nuke them if she can have some credibility.

When Cooper called her out, I wonder if he had a script? What if she had bit? Wonder what that would have looked like. He was probably armed with some little factoid to nuke her with. That is the M.O. for the Rove machine. Best to keep her powder dry.

I apologize for imlplicating Anderson in this. I am wrong about that. I am very sorry. It is a terrible thing to accuse someone.

Why was Anderson talking to her instead of Michael Chertoff, or Michael Brown, or Dick Cheney, or, get it? Why HER?

She's a nuke that's about to go off. She has fought for years over this, she's not gonna say 'told ya so' to Anderson while he in the middle of Hell, is she?

Please, find out WHO she is and the motive is there. Understand, why HER? I hope you understand. I feel strongly about this, she is what the new America will need. Desperately need

P.S. Didn't she say something about her and her brother making rescues?

33. Perhaps because she's a Senator from Louisiana, and she oughta
know better. And she should fight like a hungry bayou hound for her people when they're in trouble like this, instead of coddling the thugs and batting her eyelashes at them and pouring their tea and hoping that by making REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL nice-nice and not giving them a hard time for the shit-job they're doing, maybe they'll throw her some nice crumbs to take home to her starving babies.

This is beyond political niceties and courtesy and Emily Post. Sometimes you just have to cut the crap, and the meaningless platitudes and flattery, and say what needs to be said. She should be the FIRST ONE to point out how her state and this gorgeous, sexy, historic jewel of a city got screwed over royally by short-sighted, cheap-ass, penny-wise/pound-foolish, tightwad, politicking maneuverings. THIS, TOO, IS HOMELAND SECURITY. EVERY BIT as much as fighting some vaporous "terrists" we can't put our finger on but with which we can scare people into unquestioning submission. THANKING bush?!?!?!?!?!? For WHAT???? For cutting back the funding, year after year after year, when he was warned repeatedly, disregarded the research, the studies, the scientific findings (probably because none of his readers could find any reference to them in the BUY-BULL). As Salon's War Room joked - it might as well have been on another one of those Presidential Daily Briefs that he ignored - like the one a month before 9/11 - that would have been titled "Hurricane Katrina Determined to Strike the U.S."

Frankly, she SHOULD have said "I told you so" to Anderson Cooper. Because, you're correct - she, of all people, with that long family history of hers in and around New Orleans, she was UNIQUELY and PERFECTLY positioned to be able to make a WORLD-CLASS STINK about this. She would know, more than ANYBODY else, how badly these people were being screwed. And she'd been around Capitol Hill, too, long enough (since last November was her RE-ELECTION - she'd logged six years there already - four of them directly under the cloud of bush's "leadership." She'd have known, and probably fought in vain, against the wheeler-dealers who repeatedly screwed her state out of funding because they had "other priorities" for that money. She should have been screaming bloody murder. Taking a stand. Instead, she wanted to keep on being a step-stool.

Look, there's whoring and then there's whoring. Maybe she thought she was sucking up to get more help. But we have a long and well-established track-record with this cabal of thugs. Sucking up doesn't get you very far with them AT ALL. Making nice-nice with them just gets you stepped on, and kicked in the teeth, and thrown out with the garbage. Just ask Tom Daschle. Just ask ANY of the Democrats who thought that giving bush everything he wanted and caving to him time and time and time and time and time again and support his war and his Patriot Act and his tax cuts and all his other Neanderthal ideas and would somehow motivate him to regard them as friends when it came time for them to run for reelection, and that he'd go easy on 'em. And he did NOTHING OF THE KIND. He backstabbed 'em and campaigned for, and raised a lot of money for, people who booted them out of office.

Whew! Sorry, don't mean to bear down on YOU personally. But really, it's LONG past time that ALL these people were held accountable. Unquestioning, silent, cowed, bullied reactions DO NOT CUT IT. And those who wanna play it that way should be made to eat all of it. And if it's done in public, on nationwide (or in CNN's case, worldwide) television, so much the better.

it was the 4th time I'd heard HER give the same 'speech' abt how wonderful Bush, Frist & Reid were etc etc. Someone said that Cooper had family who used to live in that immediate area of mississippi so he may feel a connection to the area. But he sounded clearly ballistic abt the lack of any assistance reaching the area he was covering, having spent the day with people looking at tiny fragments of their lives and decomposing corpses.

And you know what? After that interview, I heard her briefly on either Zahn's or King's show and she finally said something abt the lack of speed of the arrival of the assistance.

He has every right to be upset, but it was insensitive and unseemly to be going after Mary Landrieu now, she is only trying to save her constituents...she was obviously in great anguish which was clear from the interviews with her. It does her no good to start insulting and badmouthing the people she needs to rely on to help bring the city back.

She knows as well as anybody the vindictiveness of this administration.

I say leave her alone...the last thing she needs is a bunch of armchair quarterbacks second guessing her.

38. How is blaming the Mayor because he is black fair,
or not racist? (Anderson to Jesse: "Isn't it the Mayor's fault? He's black".) Look, he is under great stress and may not be thinking clearly. I know I could't handle it. But somehow he thinks someone other than Bush and FEMA is responsible for the debacle of the relief effort. Why isn't Anderson being allowed to speak with any Republicans that we know are in authority there? FEMA hasn't talked to him at all as far as I know.

(We know Lott is a 'token' republican as he can suffer no political damage at all from this. They threw him under the train last year and talking to him is subterfuge to make the show seem "fair and balanced". I want to hear from the guys in the chain of command.)
