If you have a DEM House Rep--Write NOW...DEMAND IMPEACHMENT
That's it. The correction starts now.

IF YOU HAVE A DEMOCRATIC MEMBER OF THE HOUSE,

WRITE HIM OR HER AND DEMAND THAT THEY FILE OR JOIN WITH OTHERS

TO FILE A BILL OF IMPEACHMENT.

THIS MUST BE DONE NOW. WE CAN'T BE SILENT AS A PARTY.

Here is my letter to Congressman Moran:

Hon. Jim Moran
Member of Congress
8th District, Virginia

Dear Cong. Moran: You are my representative. I'm writing you to make a very strong request in view of the massive negligence and consequent suffering in New Orleans.

I request that you immediately file or join with others to file a bill of impeachment for President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

The storm was anticipated one week in advance. Nothing was done. The storm hit. Nothing was done. It's five days later. Nothing is being done.

The lack of response and the suffering and death are directly traced to nothing being done.

This is a crime against the people of New Orleans and surrounding areas. It is also a crime against all Americans.

Please move to impeach Bush/Cheney now.

Thank you.

1. Rep. Marty Meehan, Mass 5CD -- DONE!
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 11:28 AM by paineinthearse
Done, sent to his Massachusetts political director (if you have a personal relationship with a staffer, a message to him or her, rather than via the general address or through the House website) is more likely to reach the Representative.

Great post, Auto. We have 203(?) democratic members of in the House.

I'd like to see 203 headings here, one for each member (like above), with additional responses under the appropriate heading.

Nominated.

p.s. If/when we get responses, be sure to apend to your original post.

17. Good! But it would be helpful to cite some legal breach.
Tell them where in the Constitution, the oath of office, etc. it says that they can be impeached for negligence.

I'm not saying there's no case, but as with the Downing St. stuff, it's better to make the case than to just scream negligence, incompetence, etc.

I'm sure if there is a case, Conyers, et al will be able to make it.
Perhaps we should ask them for some guidance.

In addition, there was an amendment to the bankruptcy bill to exempt those affected by natural disasters that was shot down by the Repukes in Congress. It will be reintroduced now. It would be useful to urge them to pass it this time.

Remember, we need to change Congress. If this amendment fails again, even in light of recent events, it becomes a campaign issue for '06. If it passes, we will have helped a lot of unfortunate people!

Just my 2 cents.

20. The email I sent to my Senator (Tom Harkin- D) today...
Dear Senator Harkin,

I am writing to you today--full of sorrow, disbelief and anger--as I witness the Bush Administration's inexcusable, reckless and discombobulated response to the crisis in New Orleans and other areas affected by hurricane Katrina.

Senator Harkin, I am a stay-at-home mom to two preschool-aged children. I live in XXXXX. Although I vote in every election, I have never been a political activist. However, I feel compelled to cry out from the heartland and protest in the streets, as the inhumane response to this national tragedy worsens by the hour.

Our country is being shamed—on the national stage—by its own leadership.

What is going on in our government, Senator Harkin? President Bush--like the rest of America--understood the weekend before Katrina hit--that New Orleans and other areas could be devastated. This was a category 5 storm moving toward New Orleans. It is common knowledge that New Orleans was a vulnerable city that sits below sea level. Yet, the President claims that the devastation was unforeseen.

I live in Iowa, and I expected it. What great insight and awareness do I possess—that the leader of the free world seems to lack? It’s mind-boggling.

The President continued vacationing as the storm gathered. He did nothing. His agenda of inaction continued, as he appeared at a self-promoting, public-relations event in Arizona—even after the hurricane hit. The President’s hollow and superficial address to the nation was disturbing. Then, four days after the storm hit—American citizens die of thirst with no visible rescue plan in play.

The pictures from CNN are gruesome. Babies are dying. Healthy adults are dying, simply from lack of water. On Thursday, a volunteer nurse, shown on CNN, said she was the only medical personnel at the Super Dome--a location in which storm survivors were told to seek shelter. Our government knew very well that thousands would be there. Still, no water and no food--more than 72 hours after the hurricane hit.

This is a horrific failure, at best.

Senator Harkin--President Bush's inept response underscores what we witness in his everyday policies. He could care less about average Americans, as he provides tax cuts to the rich and makes millions for his corporate friends. The President lied us into a failed war and we are assaulted daily with insults, “Mission Accomplished”, “We’re turning a corner”, “Things are getting better”, “The elections will be a turning point” and “Stay the course”.

It’s pathological that this administration is thrusting the same disingenuous, insulting con games into a national disaster within our own borders.

I’m tired of hearing the cries of babies and traumatized mothers on CNN, while Michael Chertoff and Mr. Brown spew sound bytes at their tenth press conference of the day. These publicity stunts are reminiscent of the ridiculous ploys that Iraqi Information Minister, Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf spewed at the onset of the Iraq war.

Is that what we’ve become, a nation of lying, laughable propagandists?

What on Earth is going on Senator Harkin?

Can anyone honestly say--that if a couple thousand oil-company executives were stranded at the Crawford Ranch--that it would take four days to deliver life-saving bottled water to them? I can't imagine that CEOs would have to wait four days—while stranded in the rafters of their mansions--with water up to their necks and no help in sight!

Katrina was a natural disaster, but the Bush Adminstrations' response is unnatural. It's an American tragedy.

Please, Senator Harkin--hold these thugs accountable in the most public and damming ways possible. The future of this country relies on the fortitude and courage of those who must speak the truth and hold this administration responsible for their failures and their lies.

I can’t take it anymore. I don’t recognize my own country any more.

It hurts to say that I am ashamed to be an American, as I witness this Administration’s botched rescue effort, accompanied by hollow lies that only serve to cover their political careers. They’re spinning as people die. It’s utterly revolting.

Please, Senator Harkin—I’m begging you to speak out and hold this administration responsible. Someone needs cut through the deceit and provide a beacon of hope, compassion and truth in America.

WE need a voice. We need leadership. We desperately need you, Senator Harkin.

Please, Senator Harkin, heed the cries of the victims of the hurricane, and also the cries of millions of Americans who are shaken, outraged and saddened by the reckless disregard of the Bush Administration.

Sincerely,
XXXXX

32. WOW, I'm moved by this. Powerful prose.
They actually read letters like this because they are unique and reflective of a much larger group. This is so powerful. Harken won't initiate impeachment but he'd judge it (just like he did in the Senate trial of Clinton). He can sure open his mouth and shout out that it's time for * to go.

25. I called CA Rep. Mike Thompson's Office Today
This was before I even saw this thread. My main points were:

1. Why hasn't Mike Thompson called for the impeachment of the entire * administration and what is he doing about hurricane relief? (said together in my first breath in a tone-setting greeting ;-) )

2. If the administration is this incapable of responding to a natural disaster that gave us several days warning, how can anybody in the country expect they'll do better with a surprise terrorist attack?

3. Congressman Thompson, and indeed all the Democrats who allow bogus elections and the overall dangerous (mis)leadership of this country, are complicit in perpetuating the myth of democracy.

4. If Congressman Thompson is resigned to being ineffectual because he accepts that the power of his office is so curtailed by the dominance of this administration (not her words, but the gist of an excuse actually provided by the staffer on the phone), then he must resign that office and make way for someone determined to be effective and bring change.

5. What is the Congressman doing to marshall local efforts to contribute to the hurricane relief?

26. what does impeachment get us? really, i don't know.
if you mean the "impeachment" like with clinton, it was essentially meaningless (unless i misunderstood). if you mean the full boat, impeaching him/them out of office, then what? new elections or a president decided by the constitutions list of successors?

i'd like to see bush go, but would that leave cheney in charge? is there a mechanism for new mid-term elections?

from a mihop/lihop point of view, i can't imagine what would transpire if/when any impeachment momentum began.

Clinton didnt get convicted...
And at this point, and even IF we are stuck with someone not-much-better, at LEAST * would be forced from office in shame. Its what he deserves.

34. Impeachment is one of many statements...
Just to use the word or have people introduce it with large numbers behind a bill of impeachment is a victory. If they actually hear the case, then it's a bigger victory. If the case is introduced and Congress changes *, then it's an issue for 2006.

Congress in 2006 would be great.
