Halliburton hired for storm cleanup
The Navy has hired Houston-based Halliburton Co. to restore electric power, repair roofs and remove debris at three naval facilities in Mississippi damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Halliburton subsidiary KBR will also perform damage assessments at other naval installations in New Orleans as soon as it is safe to do so.

KBR was assigned the work under a "construction capabilities" contract awarded in 2004 after a competitive bidding process. The company is not involved in the Army Corps of Engineers' effort to repair New Orleans' levees.

11. I wish someone would poll the American public to ask if they
feel it is appropriate for Halliburton, with its ties to Cheney et al, to do the clean up and receive the profits?

And should there be ongoing audits on cost controls etc, and quality of work, if they are allowed to do it?

What is most striking is this: They don't even seem to care about perception any longer. They don't care how people see this, or who objects... no bids, no proposals, just BOOM! Halliburton gets the contract.

It is this Eat-Shit-and-Die disregard for the American people and how we might feel and think that just about gets on my last nerve about these people.

They are determined to walk away from their time in this administration with as much money as they could get from it.

It and they are obscene.

Halliburton gets Katrina contract, hires former FEMA director
1 Sept. 2005
WASHINGTON, Sept. 1 (HalliburtonWatch.org) -- The US Navy asked Halliburton to repair naval facilities damaged by Hurricane Katrina, the Houston Chronicle reported today. The work was assigned to Halliburton's KBR subsidiary under the Navy's $500 million CONCAP contract awarded to KBR in 2001 and renewed in 2004. The repairs will take place in Louisiana and Mississippi.
...
Allbaugh managed Bush's campaign for Texas governor in 1994, served as Gov. Bush's chief of staff and was the national campaign manager for the Bush campaign in 2000. Along with Karen Hughes and Karl Rove, Allbaugh was one of Bush's closest advisers.

"This is a perfect example of someone cashing in on a cozy political relationship," said Scott Amey, general counsel at the Project on Government Oversight, a Washington watchdog group. "Allbaugh's former placement as a senior government official and his new lobbying position with KBR strengthens the company's already tight ties to the administration, and I hope that contractor accountability is not lost as a result."

16. And they have hired Joe ALLBAUGH to manage the job
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 12:21 AM by Julius Civitatus
That is Joe Allbaugh, Bush crony, former Bush campaign manager, who later Bush appointed to FEMA and mismanaged the agency to the mess it is today.

Halliburton just got hired to clean up NOLA, and Halliburton, in return, just hired Allbaugh.

This is third-world cronyism to a level truly unexpected in a modern, civilized nation. Thievery at colossal levels, folks.

18. They never miss a chance!
Death, misery and destruction?
Well, someone's calling for Hallibuton.

It all sounds "kaching, kaching" to Halluburton, as they lick their lips in anticipation of the bite they are going to take.
